The basic idea was to spray the adhesive, let it tack, put the headliner in the right place, and then trim!

As usual, the devil is in the details...

I glued the back half down first, so I would not have to deal with angles:

Found the picture of the spray adhesive that came with the headliner. The paint guys scuffed the inside of the roof cap clean, then I wiped with a paint and grease remover before spraying adhesive:

Keep running the adhesive out closer and closer to the edges, and then when you are sure - trim:

Next thing you know - you are finished!

You can see what I mean about wrinkles. Give that headliner a good week to lay flat. My wrinkles did mellow out after install.

It's Friday my Peeps!

It seems like I took a lot of pictures of the top. I wish I would have been there for more pictures when they joined the tub to the cowl section! These guys were ~45 minutes from me, up towards the WY border, so it was a solid half-day commitment to go up and see the 40. We would always talk quite a bit about what they had done, Q and A about what was coming up next, as well as just talk about how our lives were going. There were always cool Classic Chevy projects to look at as well.

They got the side panels painted:

And when I say "painted", I mean more like I love the paint work these guys did!

When we took the hard top off, the underside of the side panels was just primer. They were pretty surprised there was no rust up in there. You can see with their work that the undersides of the side panels have a nice coat of paint on them.

I was looking at the nice work they did and just raving, and they asked if I wanted to see them out in the sun. I did!

I was really getting psyched about the 40...

Happy June my Peeps!

I am sorry for the lack of posts last week, last week was difficult.

A week ago we had to "Say Goodbye" to our little Chihuahua - Tiny. It was not easy, but my wife was brave enough to know it was time.

Then we followed that with a bunch of painting and new carpet - busy week.

Back to the 40...

I know most of the headlight bezels are some variation of white, but I thought white on white was too much, so I went with the pewter the paint shop mixed up for me:

I also thought the front seat mounts would look better in pewter than black:

Evap cover was pewter from the beginning:

You’re making it look so easy!
Dreaming...

Once again, I am trying to stitch together the exact chronology, but some of my pictures just do not have the "Date Taken" attribute - it is blank!

Maddening...

On January 30th of 2016 I went up to the painter's place to see the 40. The 40 was out front of the shop, and had the top on, but you can see the top is not fully assembled.

She looked great...

In this picture you can see the difference between the roof cap color and the body color white. Body color is a little creamier.

This was the same visit we lifted the top off and assembled. I checked the "Date Taken" attribute on the photos and they were Jan of '16.

The 40 moved back and forth between the main workshop and the storage build as their time and projects required.

Pretty sure we went down to the storage building to assemble the hard top.

Putting the top together!

Looking at the front of the hard top - there are pieces that bolt to the top and then mount a bracket that secures to the windshield frame. Then there is an additional piece that slides into this bracket and seals the top to the front door weatherstrip. Hopefully these picture will explain it better...

Mock up before we pulled the side panels:

Here is a close up of the rail and the weatherstrip slider. Not sure what the official terms are for these items...

At the rear of the hard top, there is the header piece that goes over the ambi doors.

Note the weatherstripping:

Once the side panels are back on there are little triangle braces that join the header to the side panels.
