Rough value of a Subtank "kit"

IIRC Slee's kit was about 1200$? It included everything, tank, dual neck, sender, pump, switch/gauge.

You can build one for much less, you just have to scavenge parts. Using a 70 series tank, making your own filler neck, etc. The problem for you guys is emissions control!

Emissions have not been an issue for me, and I live in the People's Republic of Kalifornia.

Had my Cruiser smogged last summer with the tank and dual filler. Smog tech didn't even look under the truck.

My '77 FJ40, however, is a different story...

I believe those are the key components, due to venting, for emissions testing.

I built my own filler neck (simple Y, very common) but I'm not sure i'd pass an emissions test if needed.

I also fill the main tank with the sub tank, I dont have a direct line to the fuel rail, that modification probably wont fly either when testing.

I think in some areas, any non-factory emissions equipment is an automatic fail. I imagine it is up to how anal the judge is.

A dual tank would not effect emissions. The aux tanks vents the exact way as the main any tank pressure testing done the results would not change.

I don't have any first hand experience with it, but I have read about vehicles being failed on a visual inspection just by having an aftermarket air cleaner or even an intake resonator removed. I know things like aftermarket carburetors or EFI swaps can get failed immediately.

There's threads here about aftermarket cats failing visual, so an entire extra fuel tank without a CARB-certified aux-tank-evap-canister that doesn't exist might be valid reason to fail an emissions inspection. I live in a free state so I don't care either way, just speculating.
