So the piece you had welded in, was that part of the spring and not attached or par my of the shackle kit and decided to weld it solid?

These OME Dakar springs feature sleeves in the spring eyes to provide a better surface for the bushings to ride on. The sleeves on the early springs (which mine are) 2006-2007 era, are prone to becoming loose and allowing the springs to move side to side (on the sleeve), wearing the bushing "ears" out. Now that the sleeves are welded into the springs they function just like normal springs with no sleeves. Hopefully no more ruined bushings!

By any chance...any pix?

My springs are in the same boat, installed '07. Didn't realize the sleeve wasn't attached. Will have to inspect. Thanks for the info.

So I took the 60 to Big Bend/ Terlingua for the 49th Annual Chili Cookoff.

Averaged 13.9mpg. Driving 75-80mph most of the way. Rolled with my friend in his 100. Kept up. No issues other than burning a little oil. Added 1/2 quart on the first half of the journey.

Posted out of order but you get the point.

Love driving this thing.

Get out there and explore.

Love that early blue color.

I'd like to take a trip out there some day. Are there any back roads (slower speed limits)? Or did you just take i10 west?

There are some alternate routes but not really any slower speed limits that wouldn't be a really long trip. I took I-10 all the way from Houston on the way there, and then on the way back took US90, but to me that was slower. Also got the lowest MPG on 90. The hills and a headwind took me down to 12 for one tank. I think I-10 is the way to go.

The 60 has been in hibernation lately other than a drive on the weekend or LC Meeting.

I decided to pull my subwoofer/amp out of it to possibly put in my Corolla. In the process of doing that I made the radio stop working. Didn't realize that until the next day.

Checked the radio fuse, and a few others. Tore into the dash to check the fuse on the back of the radio and power wires. Everything was okay. Reconnected the battery, noticed my dome light was not working... sure enough the dome light fuse was culprit. Funny thing is, I have read that somewhere before I am certain of it.

So now laugh at how far I pulled my dash apart:

While I was in there I discovered that we used scotch-locks in the past to piggyback the inclinometer off of the power inverter wires. I didn't like that so I am going to re-do it. May also clean up the cut wire on my factory radio harness... older bro must have done that.

Also decided I have way too many wires running in there. So I am going to wire my Hella 500's to come on with my high beams. This involves removing my HID headlights, which also have a fantastic wiring harness under the hood. Will need to order a blue LED bulb for my high beam indicator (has and does not work since I have had HID's in there). If anyone wants the 35W 6,000K H4 Hi/Lo HID System, I have some Autopal Housings (Hella knockoff) you could put them in. Shoot me a message. Would let them go for reasonable price. Advised those would be for offroad use only.

Not sure if I want to put the power inverter back in the dash or not. All depends on how nicely I can clean up these wires. Would really like to have a custom console that it could be stowed in between the shifters and stock console location. But I don't have plans for that anytime soon. Who knows.

It was nice to get some wrench time on this thing, Looking forward to more as the wallet permits.

My dome light fuse took out my dome lights, clock, and radio as well.

Yeah, I think this is a thing that I have read on this board. Just wish I would have thought about it lol. All I was going on was no radio, had no clock to check, and didn't notice the dome light :hillbilly:

Checked on a few things last night on the 60.

Transmission and Transfer-Case fluid needed a check. Trans level good. Transfer was a touch overfilled. Like 2-3 ounces. I think I may have filled it with the rear axle off the ground last time. i.e. Truck not level. Amount of fluid did not point towards the infamous seal failure. Big relief there.

More in the next post.

Next up. Finally replacing one of my window regulators. Using a Dorman Unit. Part # 749-821

Install was smooth. Pull out old. Replace with new. All bolts lined up. Greased with some White Lithium spray I had. Light coat. Probably didn't even need it.

Tear down:

Window rolls up and down. Slight clunk when window gets to the top. Not sure if normal. This is the best it has ever worked. Will do driver side later on. Happy with Dorman window regulator.

Anything new Alex?

Not much to report here. I actually drove it to work today. Kind of a big deal. My commute is 80 miles round trip.

I need to bleed the brakes to check if that is what is causing an inconsistent pedal feel. From there I will decide whether or not to replace the booster and master.

Oil consumption, It has leaks, it smokes a little bit, I'm just keeping oil in it. Not sure what exactly is happening.

Need to do the driver side window regulator still. LOL.

Play around with light wiring. Ideally I want a harness for my headlights and then will tie my Hella 500s to come on with the high beams. The Rigid LED pods are the only thing I need on a switch really.

I really don't drive this thing that much. I enjoy it when I do. If it ain't being driven it just sits in my garage. I think it likes that. Just need to keep it safe so I can enjoy it for many many more years.

I've been waiting for you to spot me on 290 in my truck. Sadly it hasn't happened. :(

I'm on 290 usually around 7:45- 8:00am. And after 5pm. M-F. From 610 loop to Hollister is the only stretch I drive. Usually in my Corolla though. Have not seen a Silver 60 with black grill. Heck it's rare to even see an FJ60.

That's a thin window. I'll try to make it happen. It's currently in pieces, but next week I should be driving it again.

3 weeks of daily driving it 40 miles a day with no AC finally got to me.

Put new belts on the Cruiser this past Sunday. I purchased some Gates Green Stripe Belts from Rock Auto. Good quality. Good price.

Part Numbers:
  • GATES 9500 - AC
  • GATES TR22434 - Water Pump, Smog Pump
  • GATES TR22625 - Alternator, Power Steering
The AC Belt seemed about the same length as what I had on there. The WP belt was a shorter than what I had. The Alternator belt was longer than what I had. They all fit no problem. I did have to swap out my alternator stop bolt for a shorter one that I had from the past. Stock one broke a long time ago from over tightening. (I know that bolt is not meant to tension the accessory, but to hold the other in case it gets loose.)

Rock Auto lists the lengths as follows:
  • GATES 9500 - 50-3/8"
  • GATES TR22434 - 44"
  • GATES TR22625 - 63-1/8"

Toyota belts that I was running for reference:
  • #99343-11260-78 - AC
  • #99343-11120-77 - Water Pump, Smog Pump
  • #99343-11570-77 - Alternator, Power Steering

Main reason for new belts was my Water Pump belt had been screeching. It was notably worn. I think the good fan clutch I have on my 2F really works that belt hard. Other belts looked a little dry but I'll save them as trail spares.

Great work bud. My commute is 135 miles round trip and I take my truck at least 2 days a week. Aside from 2 sightings, I have never seen another 60 in the last 5 and a half years on my commute.
