I made this lower radiator pipe out of 1.5" stainless and had a friend of mine tig it together today. Threw the front end back on and drove it to dinner. This engine is torquey compared to the 3b. The cone filter is obnoxiously loud so I'm going to fit the Donaldson back on it.

Put the guard, winch, and bumper on yesterday. The HFS bumper was given to me by a friend of mine. The winch plate welds to the c-channel prohibit the 4 plus guard from sitting flush on the bumper. I could clearance the brush guard a 1/4" or so but don't want to mess with the powder coat so I opted to install a few washers to clear the welds.

I made this bracket last night for the air cleaner. Since this air cleaner will find its way to the other side of the engine when I turbo this 15bf or install the 15bft, I wanted to make something completely unintrusive and with scrap metal I had laying around.

Anyone care to guess what the flat piece here was repurposed from?

Decent clearance for an intercooler I think.

I used t-bolt clamps on the lower portion of the radiator pipe and the upper hose and can't seem to get them to seal. Yesterday I picked up some constant tension clamps from Toyota like I used on the water pump to stainless pipe connection which hasn't shown a sealing problem.

Swapped out the clamps and the lower hose with this silicon elbow I got off Amazon. With the Donaldson in place I've concluded this thing is still too loud due to the straight through muffler. I either need to install a new muffler or put a turbo on this thing.

Spent the new year morning piddling with my 15bft. It's has been in storage for over three years and I really wanted to hear it run and cycle some oil and fuel through it.

I started by installing a pilot bearing, since this had an auto behind it in the megacruiser there was no need to remove one.

In this photo you can see the 15bft bellhousing plate, it has an access hole in the lower portion to access the torque converter bolts. I'm going to weld it up and powder coat it before installing it.

I also replaced the rear main seal and installed a spare 3bii bellhousing plate and bellhousing.

I need to source a flange for this dump pipe to build my exhaust, if anyone has a lead where I could purchase one please share.

I started removing some ancillary bits like the alternator and powersteering hose as well as the hard vacuum lines running to the exhaust side of the engine.

I concluded at this point that since the PS is gear driven, I really need to remove the PS pump to keep from making a mess of PS fluid. I cut out a crude block off plate and gasket and slapped it together.

After starting the 15bft to confirm it's a runner, I got it up on the stand. It's going to get a new water pump, front seal, thermostat, oil sender, and new coolant hoses for the turbo. I'm also going to remove the ACSD. Lastly I need to source an fzj80 alternator as well, before it's ready for the 40.

Sorry if I missed it, so you did the 15BF swap first to get most of the systems figured out, and then the 15BFT is basically drop-in other then exhaust and intake routing, right?

Yeah more or less, I bought the 15bf because after a 3 year wait I wasn't even sure if I would get the 15bft engines. When I finally got the 15bft the 15bf was 90% done so I figured it would make sense to figure out the "conversion" portion of it and make sure the 15bf is a good runner. Really only fabrication needed now is intercooler and air cleaner...possibly move the battery to go to 15bft.

I got the Mega Cruiser engine on the stand after starting it Monday and, started evaluating what's staying and what's going. I removed the ACSD, TPS, and idle up diaphragm from the IP. The TPS was for the auto trans in the Mega Cruiser, the idle up was for power steering and a second circuit which I suspect was tactical or high idle since the Mega Cruiser didn't have a.c. I may reinstall the idle up bits once and if, I install a.c. on this 40.

Not quite as much as you're left with after a 2f desmog but, a good bit nonetheless.

As you can see, with those components removed this side of the engine is stupid simple and everything is within easy access. Truly a one wire operation, and one short vacuum line to the boost compensator. I'm going to swap out the fuel cut solenoid for a 12v version. With the ACSD removed the engine has two less coolant hoses. The block drain will get replaced with a non ACSD unit without the nipple and for the other end (at the water pump) I have a factory Toyota plug.

I have a couple more B diesel bellhousings for my two Mega Cruiser engines, so I started cleaning them up last night. First a dry blast, and today they will go in the vapor hone.

Spent some time refurbing the heater blower. I took it apart, cleaned it, sand blasted, and powdered the divider and flap door and installed new foam. Rattle canned the housing as well. Need to do the heater box next. I ordered a new heater valve and going to replace the interior heater hoses as well since they are about 12 years old now.
