high priced?

And not ashamed of it either!! If you need it they probably have it if your pockets are deep enough.

Right now I think my only wiggle room is on the value of the truck.
Only way to get more is drive the value of the truck up.
The $6000 is coming from an outside source other than ICBC.
So even if the truck value goes up, the amount Veron auto wrecking would offer is the same. Thus my buy out is the same.
I want the whole truck, not just the accessories.

So I presented my case for $23.5+.
We will see what the adjustor says.
If he does not want to give it to me, I will go to the next level.

The price I am asking I think is reasonable.
What do others think? Am I asking for more than its worth?

Cheers,
Nick

Ehhhh....you might be pushing it a bit. Unless you had a rider for "extra equipment" ICBC will generally not cover expensive accessories or add-ons. They will look at replacement cost for an HDJ81 LTD; and they have a fairly good idea of what these sell for. In one case (a guy totalling his skyline) I have heard ICBC base their pay-out on auction price in Japan and shipping, so lets hope they don't do that to you.

this is the reason i provide an independent appraisal for all the units i sell. it would suck to have a HJ61 weote off and get $2000 for it based on CDM units...

people get your units appraised and submit this to the insurane company. here in Alberta that means higher premiums but at least you are covered.

if ICBC doesn't cover the "add-ons" then he should be able to take them off the unit before it goes to the wrecker...

Wayne, I've asked ICBC several times about appraisals and the answer I get is it needs to be an "approved" appraisal. The next logical question is "Who's approved?" to which they have no answer! I too am concerned since I drive a CDM BJ60 that is in SIGNIFICANTLY better shape as well as better equipped than most out there as you know.

So if anyone knows of an ICBC approved appraisal outfit please post up!

I will see what they say today.
If they don't cover add ons, than I can remove them without effecting the price of the truck (payout).
I will also see what they say about rims and tires.
If no extra will be added, then they will come off.
Think I got some old mini truck rims and 235's hanging around. :)

That should bring down the value at the wrecker a little.
Might have to do this as well as try to get the value to come up.

As I said, I think $23.5 is reasonable.
Considering how much it cost me.
It not your 'average' plain jane 81, that could be picked up for $20k.
Everything is there, and everything has been done.
All it would need is your own few accessories as desired.

Cheers,
Nick

Spoke to ICBC today.
There adjustor works in the whole area so he is out of the office until friday.
The two girls I spoke to yesterday presented him my findings.
He will look at it then on friday.

I feel hopeful that we can settle and both be happy.
So next ICBC update friday.

Cheers,
Nick

BTW: I pick up my truck after work today. :)

Vernon Auto Wrecking and Interior Auto Wrecking are right next door to each other, but are most definately NOT the same place.... Interior is the place that holds itself to be the Cruiser experts, and is likely the one that has raised your ire - they have the habit of doing that - they do it to me everytime I have ever called them in the past 20 years...

Vernon Autowrecking, on the other hand, is service oriented in my experience, and tends to have the best price in this area... I would be surprised if they share ownership, just due to the different attitude of the people that work there.

That being said, it doesn't make alot of sense that ICBC would have Vernon bidding on Nick's truck.

just saw this thread. nick I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. all i can say is well done in dealing with the situation practically and mentally. looks like you have things well in hand in all departments. nice to see cruiser_guy again as well. had a nice chance to meet him earlier this year...

an occasional but long time member of the 80s group, wrench, rolled his 80 a while back and I believe he straightened the pillars cosmetically, replaced the glass, but put a cage inside. You might want to consider that as your cheapest option. maybe shoot him a PM or PM junk who would know how to reach him.

one other option is that, last time i was there, interior auto had a decent looking 55 body in the yard. HDJ55 has not been done yet! of course they would want too much for it, but I'm sure you could find a 55 somewhere.

In owning my BJ60 since 1989 I have NEVER found a 'Cruiser at a wrecker in B.C. except on the island and only once in Vancouver (I think that was a truck sold to them by the owner and not via ICBC). Interior seems to get ALL of the ICBC wrecks. They generally have a dozen or more any time I've been there.

Interior buys the majority of Cruisers in Southern BC. Pinedale in Prince George used to have a lot of the Northern BC stuff. They were much easier to work with. Interior probably makes most of its money selling parts back to ICBC. They pay a lot at the auction and they charge a lot when ICBC is looking for a used part for a repair claim. I bid on a few Cruisers at the ICBC auction years ago and got beat by Interior nearly every time.

Thanks semlin.
I appriciate the support.

As for what I am doing.
I think the only way to fix the cruiser is:
1. weld in a new roof
2. body swap of engine swap with a gasser
3. transplant drivetrain into something else.

As for your idea of a 1HD-T powered 55. My girlfriend has something very similar. She has a turbo 3B 55 series. I guess it would be called a BJ55.

I don't think I have the time or space for a transplant. But if I were to do a non 80's swap, I am 99% sure it would be into a 45 troopie.

Cheers,
Nick

Pro-Truck in Surrey has a couple of '80s. One of them has already been crushed, but i think they have the other one still.

Nick, here's your chance for a LHD diesel '80!

Great News!!!!!

ICBC just called.
Final price $23540 :) :)
I am so happy.

I presented my case to them. The people I spoke to were very helpful and very nice. I explained why it was worth $23500. What had been done, plus all the extras. Even though I was into it for $26K+ I know I can't ever get dollar for dollar out. I thought $23,500 was fair as it sat.

I printed everything off from different importers websites, and the autotrader.
Did my best to explain about rollbacks, hidden damage and all the servicing, etc..... And the protection you get from an importer like Wayne. Then explained about all the curbers, and how hard it is to find good trucks now.

Anyways, they met me at my asking price.
I think they did for a few reasons:
1. I was reasonable. I was not asking for the moon.
2. I brought in receipts, and print out of everything (documented it the best I could)
3. I did not get mad or freak out at them

Anyways, this is my second dealing with ICBC.
Both times they have been great to deal with.
True, both times they always started low. But I can't blame them.
If they paid everyone out higher value my insurance would be more expensive.
The appeal process was easy both times.

Anyways, people say a lot of stuff about ICBC, and how we have no choices.
Personally I think they are good.
Two experiences to prove it.

I just wanted to share.

Cheers,
Nick
