Do you have the standard or desert version? I wonder which one is a better color match to the '13 LX.

I recently bought and installed the desert version. I live in the SW so it was my best choice. I'm happy with it, but I think I would have preferred a black or darker one. 2010 LX570 with dark grey interior.

I agree the color will be way off in my truck and on top of the dash will not get wife approval.
They only say it is "heavy duty composite plastic". Can that plastic be painted as in hold paint? The other concern is with getting the paint inside the channel. Hard to tell from pics but do you think it can be done.

I think it's a well made product (for 3-D printing) and once you get your stuff mounted you don't really even notice it. I mounted mine as far back as possible, but three of the holes that I drilled butted against plastic reinforcements on the bottom of the speaker cover so I wasn't able to use all of the nuts provided. In a few spots I had to nibble away some of the plastic ridges under the cover to make the washers and nuts fit. I wedged the three remaining bolts into the holes with a little tape so it looked finished and so they wouldn't rattle. There are so many bolts that those three probably won't make any difference.

Yes, they have plenty of screws even doubled across the channel so that should not be a problem. The tape is a great idea or a dab of caulking on the back to keep screws in place for aesthetics.

My concern is the color that has to pass muster with wife. My truck is not an overlander, so it has to look "factory" as much as possible. This is why this mounting solution is the preferred one as it offers the necessary functionality with the best OEM like look that I found so far. It is probably the most expensive at $100+ but with the low cost of RoadTop from Walmart this is no longer a problem and it will work well in the future when upgrading or replacing the RoadTop.

I also plan to get a new grill to mount on as if in the future I need to remove the mount and return to OEM look I'll have the part on hand (Toyota does discontinue this kind of parts). Unfortunatelly that is expensive at $134 and out of stock at international supliers.

Q for @Adrenaline6 regarding the cabling used...
The RoadTop uses 3.5x1.35mm connector for power. Any reason why you chose to mix 3.5x1.35mm and 5.5x2.1mm connectors? Are the 5.5 kind of standard for off road folks or is just because those where the parts you could find available?

One more q about cabling...
where do you guys hooked up for switched power to the aux/cig lighter, the radio, or something else?

Behind/ beside the head unit down to the cig lighter below the HU. It is accessory switched.

Yes...the 5.5 is a more standard size jack. Finding the one 90 adapter is a lot easier.

Okay...got it installed. I think with the extended ball adapter, it puts it out at the perfect spot above the dash using the speaker grill dash accessory mount.
I'm ready to take my first long trip with my Road Top and trailer backup camera mounted on a Leather & Dirt speaker mount. Due to the long Ram mounts and extensions involved, it definitely helps to "rest" the units on the dash to lesson vibrations. @Adrenaline6 illustrates this well in his second photo.

No need to paint anything. Leather & Dirt has a new version of the desert mount in black that I already installed. I'll post dome pics and how to soon.

In the meantime, I played with the RT on Android devices and the experience is a bit mixed when using wireless Android Auto (supported since Android 11).

I'm running Android 13 wirelessly. After restarting the truck and Android Auto connects, the audio gets lost. I do have "Use Car's BT channel" set to ON under EQ in RT settings. There is confusion who gets the Bluetooth (BT) audio: RT or the truck. I have to fiddle with the BT settings before sorting it out and then I'm good until the next truck restart - not good.

I'll play more with this, but if you have any advice, please let me know.

On wired connection on Android 10 things are simpler, but no matter what setting I'm using in Android Auto, I need to unlock the phone first before Android Auto connects. I have not tried using Android 13 wired as I want to use it wireless.

I finally Picked one of these up. Kinda thinking it’s the 8.8 version but we will see. $75 shipped to my door from Walmart, should be here Monday. Says it’s sold by roadtop.

Question though. Does it auto connect and auto play when you start the vehicle?

It should if everything works properly.

Why not getting the 8.9?
Honestly didn’t know there were options. So
I ordered the first one I could find. I hadn’t read this thread in a while.

If it comes in and is the 8.8 I’ll probably return it and get the 8.9 with the light sensor. That alone will be worth the money upgrade. I saved it in my cart for if I need to return and select the correct one. Thanks for the link

My startup goes like this.
Start
Phone connects to car BT and music starts playing on Amazon Music app if it was running on my phone to begin with.

Music stops, plays, then stops again as Android Auto connects.

Android Auto screen shows maps and Amszon music app in split screen

I have to hit play to start music

Thank you. We are iPhone so we shall see what it does.

Only thing I don't like is using it for phone calls - my BT connects for calls to RT 8.9 and LC but the RT take priority.
It's on a switch and I turn it off when my phone rings, takes a few seconds then I can answer with steering wheel controls - using a Samsung S23+

On startup Spotify will automatically play if I was using that prior but any other app will only auto play if it's a short time out of the truck... like getting gas.

To be fair though, the auto startup thing seems to be an Android Auto/music app issue. Not a RT one.

A problem I found was using the steering wheel buttons to initially start the music playing. Th RT and Android Auto didn't like that and I had to reboot the RT for it to connect back up to my phone and work right.
