The '70 axle has a sort of cradle that supports the long u-bolt on the side of the pumpkin. My '76 axle seems to be missing this piece. Hmmm. I will have to remove the one from the 1970 axle and weld it to the '76 axle, I guess.

Here's the '76 axle:

I just looked at the 78 axle I just got and it is missing this piece also. How do these things come off in the first place?

Gosh. I hate to disagree with the mighty Poser. 4.10:1 started with the FJ80. I'm pretty sure the FJ62 still had 4.11:1. I have a FJ62 diff in the garage. I'll count tonight.

Yeesh! Knock it off! You guys go settle your "diff-agreement" in another thread. This is MY thread!

Poser told me to settle this. FJ62 = 37/9 = 4.111. Sorry to hijack Alfred.

I love being right! :grinpimp: Probably the last time if the wife has anything to say about it.

By the way, is this conversion finished yet? If not it's about the longest saga in MUD history.

Back to the usual programming......

Being right is very nice indeed!

Not done yet. I'm trying to set a record! Seriously, I have some painting to do and then the front axle gets bolted on. Then, I have to do the rear conversion and run the lines.

Might wrap it up by June.

:meh:

Cool. Looking forward to the resolution. But god did make the entire world in 6 days. Just sayin.....:flipoff2:

Drew, you're a man who does a springover on a 60 (and a danged nice springover at that) in a weekend! I am not in your league, man! Not even close!

I have to look at everything once, twice, three times, mock it up, make sure it fits, assemble, disassemble, read, study, squint, grumble, solicit some opinions, read some more, etc., etc., etc.

And these danged brake lines intimidate me!

I'l try and go a little faster, I promise!

:)

Hey Rigger. I am glad I did not get a chance to read this thread until about a week ago. Nice job, but seriously its been a year. Good work.

Ran my brake hard lines over the weekend, what a PITA with the front body panels on. Next time I'll take the time to remove them first, would make life a whole lot easier!

Yeesh! I've got an angry mob outside the door!

Guys, this is supposed to be a relaxing & fun hobby!

:)

I just ordered most of what I need from Poser for a rear disc brake conversion on my 73... I did my research and feel good about the decision... Weather in VA is pretty nice right now... Maybe I will get lucky and have everything I need to get this done over the weekend... I'll be posting some pics if anyone is interested even though there seems to be no shortage of disc brake information on mud...

Rigger, I tore my 69 FJ40 apart over a year ago and have just now put the engine and tranny in. Should finish up with the disk conversion next week. Then will start with getting the engine working. Engine is completely bare. No starter, fuel pump, radiator, etc..... Hopefully I will get it started by end of May. Maybe then I can think about getting the body put back on it.

I have made a little progress.

Installed all new radiator & heater hoses. (no pic of that)

Set wheel bearing preload & installed brake calipers. Now have all brake lines installed on the front axle. One of my Aisin hubs was not working, so I tore it down and fixed it. Installed both hubs.

Next up; install steering tie rod, install springs, and get this thing back on its front wheels!

Also, I got all my rear brake lines sorted out, bought hoses and a tee from Poser. (I can't seem to do a thing on this project w/o Poser!)

I'll get more pics up next week.

:)

Installed both front springs. Installed the front axle to the springs. :)

Spent a few hours in the garage today. I have gotten a burst of energy recently and I want to get through this project. Warm weather is ahead, and I am looking forward to driving this thing this summer!

Hooked up the drag link and the relay rod. I had bought new ends for these pieces, so I had to pull the old ends and install the new ones.

I installed the new brake booster and then bolted on the new master.

I figured a way to support the prop valve, and got that roughly in position.

Then I started tinkering with the new hard brake lines under the hood, looking for ways to route and anchor the lines. I am really worried about these lines. I want this to come out right.

There ain't nothing quite like an old FJ40!

I'll be back on this later in the week. I'll post pics then.

:)

Okay, ran out and took a few pics . . .

Thanks Rigger,I like the 90* bracket for the rear porp.valve.Looks like you are doing good on the hard lines under the hood there.
I am using the firewall adapter also, gets the MC real close to the carb. You can really see it on the top view pic.nice angle.
Are you going to do away with all the 9mm fittings and run new lines/fittings all over?Or just connect to the rear at the nearest fitting from under the hood. That could be good a good thing to do.
I am going to keep reading up,it's on my list.
Thanks, John

Need to make a correction on my question on the 9mm fittings, they were on pre. sept.69 rigs. After that date it switched to 10mm.
My 40 is a Jul.1969-darn! Sorry to clog up your thread.
