. and trying to figure out how to hybrid the 442f harness with the aw45o tcm and plugs or some variation that works .. i dont think i will have much trouble with the main swap itself other than these i mentioned

I want to say @Fromage is the person to ask about a442/AW450 hybrid stuff. If you use search you should be able to find the Mitsubishi fuso swap he conducted where he made the hybrid trans. That should put you in the right direction.

I should update that post but the aw450 is done and ready however i seriously think iam going to have to use the mitsubishi 4d34. Cuz the 4he1 just doesnt want to fit far enuf back to clear the oil pan and at its far back point it blocks the turbo intake.

Converting LJ78 into coil sprung 76/77 style cruiser. 1HZ swap

update . i went with the fuso 4d34 and have the engine and trans in and its working well however iam in dire need of an intercooler kit . sugestions ?
You could build your own from piping kits and inter coolers sold online. You need to figure out what size piping and cooler you want to run. I built one for my HDJ81.

I agree and that is what I did on my 60 with an Isuzu 4BD2 swap.

Here is a sample of mine, and lots of pictures in my swap build linked below.

1HZ 4.2 Diesel install in a 1987 FJ62 - (pulled out the 3F).

Got the gearbox ready and all the clutch components done, with the bellhousing ready for mating. Now for the interesting part of trying to get everything to work with the new diesel. Its all the electrical stuff that is terrifying me LOL . Baby steps

Here's my LJ78/VW TDI swap thread:

Hey all, I'm new to the Diesel world, and quickly learning that I didn't do my research before buying my 1980 BJ40 (July 1980). The rig has a B motor and I just learned it has a blown headgasket. I live in California.

So I have 2 options.

1. Fix the blown headgasket and while I'm at it, replace the water pump, thermostat, injectors and all the gaskets.
or
2. Swap the motor for a more recent diesel engine. I read here that most are direct bolt ins. Is that true? What motor would you guys recommend?

For option 1:
Would appreciate the help finding any parts places (US or Internationally) where I could find thes parts. I think fixing the existing motor would be the quickest and most inexpensive option.

For option 2:
If the engine swap if your recommendation, which would you go with, and how available are the parts here in the US.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think you'll have challenges finding parts for any toyota diesel in the US. The H series is fairly common, but has poor power and is large/heavy for what it provides. I have two 12HT's and I had to import every part I needed for my swap. Frankly, the evolution of the internet has made things way easier than they were ten years ago, and websites like Partsouq and Amayama have made things WAY easier to source and get shipped directly to you.

In CA, I think the cummins R2.8 wouldnt be a bad option if you wanted a modern crate engine that would have a lot of parts availability and easy support. You can also mate it up to a lot of modern transmission options.

I think the biggest deciding factor is who is doing the work, what is your budget, what kind of performance are you looking for and how much time do you want to spend tracking down parts.
