The ONLY thing I do not like about my truck is that I do not have intermittent wipers.

Has anyone replaced their standard set up for a delay set up?

I am thinking junkyard for the parts.

Thanks.

Ok. So, I dug a little deeper....

That post is OK for pics and some information but does not speak to the most important question for me which is:

WHICH switch do I get/buy?

So, the answer is this:

IF you have a 91-95 pickup without the intermittent wipers, that would mean you have a NON SR5 truck. I am not sure all of the different models but I know that ONLY SR5 trucks came with intermittent wipers AND ONLY SR5 trucks have the tilt wheel option.

Now, within the SR5 model, you had a Cruise Control OPTION. So, in the SR5 model, you have a Cruise (I have heard that you CAN retrofit cruise but I don't care for it so not in my scope) and Non Cruise Wiper Switch available.

You will need the Non Cruise Wiper Switch which has a built in intermittent circuit board. In other words, you do NOT need a control relay that attaches to the ECU (that is on earlier trucks though from what I understand).

You WILL need to go through the steps of removing the old switch from the harness, removing the old switch, installing the new switch and then hooking the switch into the existing harness.

There it is.

As soon as get my switch from the yard, I will do a write up. I think it should be in the facts section.

$35-50 and some time. Not too bad for such an upgrade.

FYI...you CAN use a wiper switch from a same year 4 runner. You will just have a Rear Wiper control that, well, controls nothing.

Howdy! Do you also need a solinoid? I have one on my 85. I can hear it click on and off to make the wipers move. John

Hi John. The 84-88 trucks are different. I didn't go into that much depth when I was searching. But I believe you need both the switch and a control/relay box which I assume is what you are referring to.

My 94 is not an SR5 and has intermittent wipers.
Thanks for the great news that my new 92 doesn't have them. :crybaby:
Hi Joe.

Someone added them then. There was not a intermittent wiper option, at least according to Toyota, on NON SR5 pickups.

Similarily, AC was not standard on NON SR5 pickups and you will find many pickups that had an OEM AC added at the delaership not at the factory.

Do you have your original window sticker? I am curious to see what is listed.

I don't have the sticker but give me a couple standard SR5 features if there are any.
I'm the second owner, the first being my brother in law. I know he did not add them.

Here's my vitals...1994 TOYOTA HILUX (RN101L-TRMDEAB)

It is as stripped down as the 92, the only thing I see different is the delay wipers after you mentioned them.:hillbilly:

Um, you have a Hilux???? That is not a North American truck.

I assumed that since you were from Jersey that your truck was NA. My bad.

I cannot speak for Hiluxes (is that right??) since I/most folks in NA do not own them.

If you made a mistake on the name, then it still stands to reason that the dealer added the option before your BIL bought the truck.

Some standard SR5 options were tilt wheel, intermittent wipers, upgraded stereo.

Looking forward to the writeup, as I could use this also.

Hey Ray. I am waiting on a used switch from govt.mule board member. As soon as I get it, a writeup will be made!

For what it is worth, a new switch can be bought from Cdan for 100.00 and the ride. At that price, it is well worth it in my opinion.

FYI... my ex's '94 is NOT an SR5 model. But it does have intermittent wipers, AC, and cruise. It didn't have a dash clock (I added one, it was really easy). Crappy vinyl flooring, super uncomfortable bench seat, otherwise a stripped model.

Like I said, I am sure that there are some DLX pickups that have those added. IF you query parts for a DLX pickup, you will not see a cruise option nor an intermittent option.

My DLX pickup did not have AC from the factory-it was added at the dealer.

This is coming from Cdan folks so I am pretty confident that he knows what he is saying.

That description was copied and pasted directly from the ToyoDIY.com site.
I have always refered to pre 95 pickups as hilux, whether that is the true name or not for the US models.
Both the 94 and 92 trucks I have are definately US models bought new at dealers.
The 94 is probably a DLX with a 6/94 build date.
I also realized today that the 92 doesn't have a clock either. That blows.
Will a clock from say a 94 go into that plugged spot and is there wiring for it already behind bezel??

I follow.

I have never seen a pickup in NA referred to as a Hilux.

Anyhoo, and like I said to KLF, it is not a matter of what it looked like when it was bought. Toyota dealers can change many things depending upon markets. The point I am trying to make is that the features (let's not call them options because that would imply a package of some sort) on your trucks are dealer configured not factory configured.

You cannot order a cruise control for s DLX pickup. You can for an SR5 though ( :

When I put the VIN in my EPC software, it says DLX.

And I have no trouble querying parts for the cruise and wipers.

The stuff all looks factory installed to me. I've seen dealer installed AC, and they (as they did in my truck) end up hacking a hole in the firewall for the fittings to the condenser coil. This doesn't look like that at all.

FWIW, my 85 4Runner is absolutely a Deluxe model and it has intermittent wipers and I would bet big money that it came that way from the factory. It also had cruise control but that was absolutely dealer installed as they put it in a new faceplate where the little cubbyhole is located, left of the steering console. Of course it's a 4Runner and not a pickup so they might have been quite different in the SR5 vs. Deluxe department.

The only factory installed item listed as an option was the dash clock. The dealer installed items listed were the turbine rims, the rear bench seat and the cruise control. I don't have the window sticker anymore but I remember it well as I also had an 86 SR5 4Runner with every option from the factory and I remember comparing the two.

Yes, the 4 runners are different entirely. Really cannot compare.

KLF: Please give me a part number for your VIN for cruise control AND intermittent wipers.

Guys, I am telling you what was told to me by Cdan and what I researched. I highly respect his opinion and knowledge on toyotas.

If you call Toyota and ask for a intermittent wiper switch for a NON SR5 pickup for years 89-94, they will say it does not exist.

Also, I don't follow how folks can say it could not have been added at the dealer. IF they knew a SR5 cruise/intermittent switch could easily be switched in, why would they not and charge an extra X?
