I know the soft top model came into the US until 77. Someone stated here on Mud that their 78 still had all the mounting stuff. This don't include soft top doors (75 the hard top doors changed) Even if it did the soft top door didn't have a striker on the tub. You can change almost any yeat hard top to another year so why would these be only thru 74:confused:
The Paki bows are made with a frame aroune the back opening but I don't think Toyota ever brought that style to the US.

A friend of mine down the street has a '78 factory soft top(obviously non-usa), that since has been converted to hard top. It has all the hardware needed to bring it back to soft, including the door straps that simply attach where the striker plate would/should be.

That frame around the back opening is, as I'm sure most of you know, for the soft ambulance door package. Something I'll be trying out on a rig hopefully very soon;)

I said 74 because Ehsan's bows are specified as 74 and earlier and 75 and later. I will also say that I can't tell the difference between the two when they side by side.

I haven't really followed all the treads on the Paki bows/tops since I don't need any of the bows he is making. But I thought I've seen the extra back bows in non ambulance door top too. Was thinking they all had them.

Thinking about trying the ambulance soft top doors on the 1962 FJ40 tub since it already has the barn doors and it has the early soft top side door openings.

I know where this new source is coming from but have never seen them. So I not sure if he has the extra back bows or not. But on the later tub (post 74) you would only have to do what anyone else has to do running any soft top. tailgates or barn doors can be fitted to the later tub without too much work. The opening stayed the same size from 1958 on. As compared to the early soft top door opening which is way different than the other door opening, I wish it was as easy as figuring out how to mount some hinges.

All of Ehsan bows have the extra back bows. The ones for ambulance doors have a hinge plate for the upper door hinge on either side.

Is he selling the soft top ambulance doors? Or are people trying to mount the hard ambulance door to the soft top bows? I don't see anyone wanting to do this.
In which case of you don't have soft ambulance doors to fit the bows people are going to want the pre 75 style if they plan on using tailgate/barn doors/blank off plate right?

Ehsan does make soft ambulance doors. These rear bows don't affect the fit of either ambulance doors or barn doors. I will look for a picture somewhere.

ehsan rear bow (1st pic) he uses this bow for ambi and reqular rear panel type tops...althought it was only an oem thing to have that bow with ambi doors only...never with a panel rear.

Here is a picture of the two different types of the rear bows. These are both for the left side of the truck. One has a plate for the ambi door hinge and one does not.

Ok. Let me chime in here. :).
About the difference between early and late bows. 74 and before, the 40s came with old style doors. Later then newer ones were used. The difference is all in the fitting for the doors. The old doors are dead straight where they meet the B pillar when shut. The newer doors have a slight bend near the center so that the upper edge of the door is just slightly bent. Now the bows are made to match. If you have a newer style bow set then you can fit older doors but you will have a troubling gap at the top rear corner of the door. I dont know if I am making any sense here.. :).
About the rear ambi door bow piec. We add these to all bows. They help in giving a better shape to the top. They dont hinder in tailgate or barn door fitting in any way. We have recently started adding the ambulance door hinge mount in most of these so that that option is open to everyone as well.

You can see where the newer bow is bent so that the top is slightly angled inwards in this picture of a repro bow made from a later hard top. This will match the later hard doors, but will leave a little gap at the top with the early soft or hard doors.

I have a question about the ambulance soft top door. Are you by chance going to make a kit to convert the pre 75 barn doors? Everything I see is for the later FJ40 that the spare tire is mount on the left side so the right door opens first. Here in the US the only barn doors ever imported by Toyota the spare tire is on the right and the door open on the left. Anything we might be able to find from a used cruier to import is going to be on the wrong side for our vehicles. I could be wrong but if you were to make a top that included the upper part of the ambulance doors that open on the left side instead of the right side first there would be a market for it. include four tube so two could be welded onto each barn door for the upper part to slip into. A couple of nut welded to the tube to lock the uppers in place and you would be set. Or another option would be to make the complete two piece door. One that opened left first and one that open right first. The pru 75 tub already have the fix nuts in the tub for two hinges while the later style only has one.

as far as i know i think i might be one of the only ones trying to fit this B-style top with the soft ambi doors to a 78' tub. look to my build thread in the next month to see how it goes

That's my point on the later tub it's not that easy. On the pre 75 tub with barn doors the holes are already in the tub. On the later you have only mounting holes for one hinge instead of two and it's in the wrong spot. I would thing the demand would be greater for the earlier style that already has the barn doors.

I do have a question. Do the barns doors from the soft ambulance doors on the later models fit flush like hard top ambulance doors or are they a little wider then the opening and fit up againt the back. The reason I ask is flush won't work for the early style. The tub isn't made for flush fitting doors. I would hate to have Ehsan make this only to find they don't fit. If they fit flush on the later model and Ehsan makes them reverse earlier model they aren't going to fit right.
