CarDude, I'm glad you asked this question. I will be doing a clutch replacement soon. I was hoping to not have to fool with the tunnel because a couple of my homemade seat brackets interfere with the flange on the tunnel and make getting to the bolts really difficult. Also, the PO sprayed Rhino Liner on the floor, covering the tunnel and the bolts. That stuff is nearly impossible to remove. If the job is doable with the tunnel in place it will save me some headaches up top even if it is a little more trouble underneath.

You can do it w/o removing the cover, but it makes it a real PITA because the shifter barrel will hang on the tunnel opening. This means you have to angle the transmission down to remove it which will cause the input shaft to bind. You should remove it and use either a engine hoist or a tranny jack so you can slide it straight back, makes it a super easy job ;-)

You don't have to. I rhino lined my floors and did not want to remove the trans cover. I recently pulled my trans/transfer and it came out from the bottom side just fine like most any other vehicle.

No, not necessary.
On the E-80 40 & 50 series, place jack under transmission.
Remove the 3 bolts in each BH mounting ear, lower the rear of the tranny/transfer down until the shift tower just clears the bottom of the shifter hole in floor.
Support rear of engine at that angle.
Remove 4 trans/BH bolts, slide trans rearward & remove.

Install is reverse of removal.

why ?

the Louisiana LandKreweser's club meeting this Sunday close to you: Twin Peaks in Metairie https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=8999454&postcount=462 - maybe you can have someone have a look at it first (I would but will be in Arizona this weekend)
Thankss for the info about the meeting. I plan on being there. My rear main seal is leaking really bad so the transmission has to come out plus I think the transmission and treansfer case might
Be leaking as well.

That sounds like a great solution. Will try it soon hopefully when I do my rear main

check your oil pan bolts first. the rear bolts tend to loosen up making folks think they have a leaking rear main.
