@Poser @FJ40Jim @orangefj45 @SWB45

I am mocking up the rest of the engine compartment and the power steering pump is posing a clearance issue.

I am aware of the Saginaw pump bracket that mounts on the engine mount. If I have a bracket fabbed up that fits existing mounting points but drops the pump down about 4.5", will this pose a problem?

I would like to stay with toyota pump and original breather assembly.

Thanks

If the LC PS pump can be used in the stock location, then do so for ease of instalation.

If the plan is to run a 70-74 carb & air cleaner, then forget about the unreliable LC pump and switch to a Minitruck PS pump or Sag pump in a custom low-mounted bracket.

Or do a simple re-fab of the air cleaner bracket to get it farther from the head (and PS pump).

Thanks Jim. I have been racking my brain for the past few days while searching mud and the Web. I think I am going to use the minitruck ps pump mounted in the smog pump location w/ a remote reservoir similar to @Coolerman.

Jim, I am about to pull the trigger on either a saginaw pump or minitruck pump both with remote reservoir to clear the aircleaner.

With the saginaw pump, a Volvo pulley is available that will fit the LC 2f belts.

The minitruck pump sells w/o a pulley, will my LC pulley work on the minitruck pump?

Thanks,

Jesse

Yes, the mini pump has the same shaft size as the LC pump, just move the pulley over.

Because the pinion seal was leaking, I opted to replace the pinion flange rather than modify my driveshaft to match the 4 speed transfer case. I noticed a small amount of play at the flange when disassembling. The front bearing was a little sloppy so it was replaced which looks like it took care of the issue. I had forgotten the bearing on my cruiser outfitters order. My local koyo dealer said that the Koyo bearing has been back ordered for a long time and this was a Japanese equivalent.

This is the route I'm about to go, talked with Kurt today on it. I was thinking about re-drilling the large flanges on my TC, then tried a few different yokes from 60s to 40 shafts that was hit or miss.

So, smart thing to do is re-flange the course spline pinion. Then off to the driveshaft shop for some love..

Looking good J,

J
Thanks Jason. My thought process is that I would like to be able to swap driveshafts without any customization if needed.

Clutch/tranny and transfer case are being installed tomorrow night. Driveshafts are being dropped off next week. As soon as I get time to box up steering boxes they are being sent to West Texas Offroad to be combined and rebuilt. I am having the exhaust done in SS which is less expensive than I anticipated.

I feel like I am not making progress but actually it is moving forward pretty well. Accumulating the right parts takes time.

I understand. I haven't touched Tank in weeks... I need to get going on the dash fab and bodywork... Even though my shop is heated, I want him painted before winter. Which is sneaking up QUICKLY! Time flies.

We are 2 months until bow season. I need to get as much done to the 40 before my other addiction sets in.

I had a small win today. When we bought the 40 I remember finding a small bracket and not knowing where it went I stashed it somewhere. While pouring over build threads looking at battery supports I saw where it belongs but couldn't find it anywhere. Today, while cleaning the garage I finally found it.
