Rear Bumper Question

My hitch on my '99 is the 'factory' hitch too but it looks different. The section that goes around the tailpipe on mine goes the other way around the bottom of the tailpipe.

i almost went with the dissent bumper because of timing i went with bio. no regrets on going with bio. mike was easy to work with even with my all my changes. install was easy if you get the hitch receiver built into the bumper you will need to notch the rear crossmember

We (Dobinsons) have this full size rear bumper option here in stock in Miami, no cutting required. Comes with LH Jerry Can and RH tire carrier included, and you can choose not to mount them if you don't want them.

Powder coat on these is really good, about the best you can get I would say.

The rear bumper is a huge investment with any route you go! My advice would be to get what you want, otherwise you will regret it later on.
I know the price on my bumper seams high but when it's all said and done its not much more than the other options you have mentioned. The bumper starts at $2400, that includes all hardware, licence plate light, 7pin trailer plug and harness, drivers side swing out tire carrier, new crossmember and high-lift mount.
Now I am developing some high dollar aluminum accessories but also plan some simple lower cost options as well.
I would love the opportunity to go over all the features of the dissent bumper and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Thanks!
Ben.
I agree. Dissent is the way to go. I will be going with Dissent up front when I am ready.

^ Ground Clearance & Departure Angle.

Factory hitch hangs down several inches below most custom bumpers. And most custom bumpers have optional receivers. For legal reasons bumper fabricators won't suggest a tow rating- but most understand why and realize the bumper designs are more than capable of meeting or exceeding standard tow rating.

So if I go with the BIOR bumper and add the receiver hitch - technically its not rated to pull a trailer but you can? I don't haul anything heavy, just a 14' with tree limbs on occasion.

I ordered the bior bumper, don't need the swing outs, and I can add them, albeit with some work, later.
It's a clean simple design and I like the built in hitch receiver. Going to powdercoat it to match the trim.

I have Luke's 4X Labs back bumper on my 80 with an ARB on the front, and Slee's front and rear bumpers on my 100 series. I purchased both swingouts, the tire carrier and the fuel can rack for the 100. The swing outs are permanently on the 80, so I am always working the single latch and moving the arms out of the way to get in to the rear hatch- kind of a PITA but I just leave it set up for expeditions. On the 100 series, for most of the year, I pull the swing arms off the 100 (pretty easy to do even by myself) and I throw the spare back under the truck. If I am heading out expedition style, I can easily put them back on- takes about 30 minutes. Slee has some very nice plastic spindle covers with rubber gaskets that came with the bumper, and I just screw them on over the spindles. Looks good, makes it easy to get in and out, wife is happy, and I still have the capability to use the expedition gear when I need it.
That said, I will state that Slee's build quality and powder coat is far better than the ARB.

I've been happily towing a trailer with my BIOR bumper hitch for a few thousand miles this past year. Works fine. No complaints. Hasn't fallen off yet.

FWIW, I made the decision to get the BIOR with the integrated hitch and a single swingout for the spare tire. I plan to keep the spare hung in the factory spot underneath most of the time and just put a spindle cap to protect the spindle when no swingout is attached. My cruiser is mostly a grocery getter and my wife does not want to deal with a swingout. So the few times a year when I go wheeling, I will mount the spare tire swingout and hang the tire. That way I have better clearance/departure angle and the tire isn't dragging on sharp rocks when I'm wheeling. Regarding towing with a "non-rated" receiver, I can see that the construction of the bumper is much more stout than the rated factory receiver. And I started a thread a year ago asking for input from people who had a BIOR and towed with it and got lots of responses from people who do it regularly with no reservations about it. I tow fairly often with a small utility trailer and my Jayco Baja that weighs between 2,500 and 4,500 lbs depending on how full it is.

My limited experience dealing with Mike at BIOR has been fantastic. He is even going to bring the bumper to me at HIH7 so I don't have to drive to Windsor or have it shipped by freight.

That's very nice of Mike to lug your bumper to HIH. Planning a parking lot install?

Good decision, Mike's products are great! I am on the waiting list with you!

That is very nice of Mike to do that, considering some logistical complications he will be dealing with. I do not plan on installing it there. I don't want a bumper install to get in the way of me enjoying the trails and the camp activities. I'm hauling it home on the toy-hauler deck of my popup.
