I'm guessing the wheel well is rusted through by looking at that support piece. I'm with Guppie, just cut a nice piece of flat stock and put the arch in it, weld it up.

This should work

So I have a Scout steering box that was rebuilt/ported at west Texas steering guys. As I drive on the freeway there is play in the steering. I figure it is the rockting of the tie rod ends that creates that lag.

So if one were to set up the, I think its called, hydro boost steerring, then would that tighten up that system by removing the tie rod lag, now that it is moving off the ram? Theoretically one could remove the drag link?

I am figuring that since I have a steering box set up for that I should use it.

Anyone have any thoughts on that hydro steering idea?
I have zero experience with hydro but I really doubt it will help with any amount of slop in the rest of the steering, everything needs to be tight for a nice feel.

What size tires do you plan to run?
How do you plan to use this pig (rock crawling) (trail running) (daily driver) ?
Do you plan on upgrading any other components at the same time?

I am running 10.5x34. I have a 55 axle housing with everything else being fj62-knuckles out. I plan to eventually replace with the whole front to 62.
I don’t plan to do crawling but do like to see what this thing can do. Just challenge it a bit. I have broken a drive shaft, rear pinion, and taken some body damage on three different outings. That’s probably just due to bad driving.

Hydro assist ram will multiply the steering forces of your current steering box to all the associated parts, based on what you’re saying I don’t see the reason to make the upgrades and I wouldn’t run it with stock Toyota steering parts.

If you do decide to put a hydro assist ram then I would upgrade to 4x4labs steering arms and one ton TRE’s at the least.

I'm running 35" tires with a Scout box and never felt I needed more power turning in the rocks.

I was thinking more of the idea that it removes play from the TREs. I definitely don't need any more turning power, having lived off the no power steering for so long, I feel like I am king of the mountain with my power steering. I am trying to figure a way to tighten up my steering. Perhaps that is jsut the way a 55 rolls?

Hard to give advice sitting on this side of my keyboard reading what you typed but if I understand you correctly you would like more responsive steering (less wandering) when driving on the road.

I don’t know how much caster you have but if you haven’t cut and turned your housing then you need more and add this to your list of things to do.

If you need new TRE’s then adding a hydraulic ram in the center of your current setup won’t help.

Take all this with a grain of salt, if you lived closer I would let you drive my pig and you would see that 85+ driving down the road one handed on the steering wheel with just a Scout box, no steering stabilizer or hydro assist works just fine.
