I hate it when things like work get in the way of the important things in life, like working on the cruiser or going out to play on the snow! Got some work done finally. I guess I am into bondo painting phase. Got the sides of the door done and painted the inside skin as well. Of coarse found a crack that could only be seen with new paint on. Pretty stoked on how the latch mounting plate came out. With the bondo thing you really get to crazy time! Do the bondo and then paint. Then see all the bumps- apply more bondo then paint. repeat... The rebondo gets smaller, but one has to figure out how far to chase the rabbit.

Man, that looks real good, turned out nice! I've no experience with the Dyno Mat, but any type of sound proofing will beat the snot out of a stock door.

Got the bondo done and paint as well. What a saga. Decided to paint the frame around the window first- black. Two or three coats and after letting it dry for a couple days went and wrapped them in paper and put some card board around it so there wouldn't be a particular part that would bear all the weight and hung them from those frames so I could do the doors all in one swoop. Cool. Got the doors all painted, let them dry, took them down, and then removed the paper around the frames. What I found was sad. The weight of the doors smooshed the paint and caused a bunch of wrinkles.:bang:. More sanding and painting- a few beers and some tequila showed up. As I was removing the tape it gets crazy and swipes up and blobs onto the not yet dried paint- tooooo fuuunnnnny. Anyway, paid the price and now I am done with the door painting.
I have cut out all the pieces to use to box out the catch on the body. And then on to the rear doors. It's a forever job.

Stil fun! :hillbilly:

Xtiaan! looks epic man, i can see how frustrating it is when hard work like painting gets messed up when you paint the next part.

Still gonna use those slings for climbing???

Looks good man, cant wait to get back to the states and get some wrenching, sailing and climbing done together!

Cheers. You always say nice things. It will be great to have them totally done. Trying to get it done as fast as I can. The final thing will be to do the linkage. I think that I have it figured out though.:hillbilly:

rebuilt and welded corners, sent hinges out to midcanic, fixed crack infront of fixed window, plated the hinge area on door, welded in the latch plate, and pro 15 in side and out and then scuffed- tomorrow will weld back in the channel for the door rubber, and if I am lucky will bondo and paint. This job seems to go on forever! have the day off tomorrow. Planned to get after the doors, but just got a call from a buddy from SD that is coming up (3hrs) to climb in my area. should I go out and play or should I get the job at hand done.

Xtiaan2000,

The doors can wait. Spending the day with a friend, who you don't see often, trumps any kind of work. Enjoy the day.

sandblasted and then powdercoated. Very disappointed. Evidently the metal, being so porous, when put in the oven- bubbles. Had a guy then sand and then painted. Be sure to tape the plunger posts so they don't get powdered or painted. You will have to end up sanding them down like I had to. :( Happy with the outcome. Each day I get a little closer to the end of the project. Did not think that it would take sooooo long, but learning patience is never a bad thing..... I guess.

Has anybody found a replacement for the little gaskets that ride at the base of the plunger. Top right side of the picture. It's kind of a hard plastic.

I have not! Mine look like those, and I cannot imagine what would be a good substitute.

Xtiaan,

I just took one apart and I see how that rubber piece could break. It seems to be a little flexible, when stretching it off.

I was planning to have the handles rechromed, but I'm glad you posted this as mine were pretty gummed up. I've got an extra set of handles, but any thoughts on just leaving the gasket off?

Mine aren't pertect. I cleaned them in solvent, sanded down the painted stems, greased them and put them back together. Three of them slide nicely and one getts bound a little. One has a cmplete gasket, two have the partial and one has none. The one without seems to bind a bit. I felt all cool putting them back together and was so hopeful that a simple clean would be enough. There is a little more I might do- might put a little stiffer spring in there and might try a more resistant spring.

Where do you think the binding is coming from. Maybe clean up the hole a little with some emery cloth, so the stem slides smooth.
