I strongly suggest anyone buying any tablet to get a minimum of 32G. I just got my IPAD and can't see how could live without now. I use it store all my music and pictures that were held hostage on my laptop and I never looked at them and I filled 29G right out the gate. Luckily I have 64G so I should be good.

iPad's are the only tablet on the market without expandable storage - or a slot for expandable storage. That, to me, is plain ignant. The one I just purchased (hasn't arrived yet) supposedly will accept up to a 32GB SD card on top of the 16GB built in storage.

Honestly, I'm not looking to put my entire iTunes collection on one of these because its unrealistic for me (over 250GB of music). I've used a iPod Mini (4GB) and a iPod Nano (8GB) for the past 6 years and it suits me fine.

That's cool, I didn't know it was expandable.

I would hate to have 60,000 songs. How the hell do you even know what you have or pick what to listen too?

ask Marshall :D

John, that looks pretty cool. Does that price include the keyboard/dock?

John, that looks like the perfect tablet. Again pricey though, but not compared to a 64G Ipad 2. Does it have 3G or 4G data service capability.

I really hate that you can't expand Apple I*** products, that and the lack of HDMI or USB input/outputs. I keep wondering how long they can keep people interested in them without offering more. However when your competition keeps putting out dud after dud, what do they have to worry about. Products like that above, as long as the Android platform continues to be a good OS, will probably force Apple to offer more in the Ipad. At a minimum a USB outlet.

And Dan where did you see the Ipad 3 in a month?

Jeremy

Apple is banking on you storing everything in the cloud, except that they aren't really providing any transitional hardware the way the competition is. People still have camcorders (GoPro) and thumbdrives for dumping data onto a laptop or tablet. Apple is just ignoring that.

I don't think they are ignoring it, they just want everyone to have a Macbook, an Ipad, and an Iphone and then use the Cloud.

The Ipad works for me because I have a work issued laptop that I don't want to have to use at home, I also have a work issued Blackberry so no itunes there. The Ipad takes care of everything I need when at home or on the road.

I haven't used the cloud yet, not sure I trust all of my stuff floating in cyber-space.

fyi, ipad3 is going to have external connectivity/HDMI, etc.

The cloud is an interesting concept, but it is for bulk storage of neutral content (mp3, non-sensitive content, etc). I would never put something I own exclusively on the cloud...always have a backup, preferably on an SSD device.

Rick makes a good point, there are plenty of nice secure remote apps to store at home and use remote. That assumes you have high enough speed connectivity and a data plan to support it all.

I think most people are segwaying into using a purely convenient device (tablet) as a primary compute platform. I know my wife barely uses her laptop anymore now that I got her an iPad. The game is changing.

I personally think the iPad device is going to retire to an iPhone capability with bluetooth headsets and cars being primary audio. With the federal laws changing and the NTSB recommending a ban on cell use in cars without bluetooth is sets the stage.

Imagine: An iPad, full functioning, cellular phone capability, data connectivity, cloud compute, etc with a nice Apple branded BT headset that can charge/dock with the iPad. It is called convergence for a reason!

Found the prime here at work in our system. Not too much of a mark up on the actually unit, but the dock...daaaaammmmnnnn.

I bought one of the HP touchpads from work for pretty cheap and since we are only using it as a kindle and for the internet, it works pretty good. Might have to wait until their is a price drop on the prime or try to win one.

And now that Words with Friends and Angry Birds is available on Android who needs an Ipad.:)

I think any connection to an outside server via wifi, 3G, or local connection is going to be slow. Not that the cloud isn't, but I know my VPN connections for work servers is slow when I am on the road.

I've been looking for a cloud solution that I could use for my website (the back end of it) Something I could easily access from an app on my phone to run music / apps/ store and share pics, etc... There has got to be something out there. I already have the Ftp part that I use to store stuff. I have unlimited space on my godaddy site with unlimited bandwidth. I've been storeing music and my personal pics to it but the only way to access it is through ftp software which sucks cause if you want to brows pics your going to have to download it first.

I also have a NAS box at home with 1terabytes of storage. It's handy and has most of my stuff on it. Also have a couple terabyte drives to back stuff up on. I have a lot of music. Maybe 500 gigs or more last time I looked. Sad thing is there is no real good way to get to it except to select what I want and sync with my iphone. Even then I'm limited to space. Plus its a hassle. So I'm relegated to using Pandora on my phone which I've been happy with.

Cloud is a risky option IMO. Who the hell knows what would happen if its hacked. I'm a fan of the Droid OS but I'm having issues with my new galaxy nexus that's operating on the new ice cream sandwich software. I agree with the above apple is just securing the market with I**** everything. Has anyone seen the new challenge for apple to build with only materials obtained in humanitarian ways. Most if not all devices are made from or at least contain materials obtained is questionable practices and apple is the biggest target..... end of rant

Always have a backup. Always. All my important pics are backed up and stored on thumb drives in a safety deposit box.
