Now that Onur has got me zinxed about doing this Hydro Assist I have started to plan the work (Sorry Onur :p). So can I mount the RAM at the same spot using the OEM stabilizer mounts or that's a very bad idea?

Thanks

Yaaaaaaa NO.

You will 1st need a hi Steer set up of some kind and the ram would mount to the axel on the tie rod that would now be in front of the axel. It would mount to the parallel rod to the axel not the one the drops from the pitmen.

You need high steer to have Hydro Assist? Hmm... didn't know that.

Thanks

I remember reading in one of the threads; some body did a reverse steering arm setup with 1 ton chevy TREs, Drag Link and Tie Rod. I guess that is the only way to move the Tie Rod in front of the axle from behind; without the HS setup. After that I guess the RAM mounts can be welded on the axle housing and on the Tie Rod some where. I wish there was way to keep every thing the way it is and just add the RAM some where. Not enough space I guess.

Oh well.. It's all coming back to me now. I need more afternoon coffee

There is a diff also in full hydro like what you found in your link and hydro assist... Full hydro is not street legal, a you would for sure flip the truck the 1st turn you made as it is very... I stress very touchy. Off-road buggy style set up only.

Chevy 1 Ton's are just the rod ends, has little to do with the steering geometry and or current placement. The only way to move it all to the front is with a hi steer set up.

Yes ofcourse full-hydro is not what I am looking for.

Here's the link: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/346545-hydro-assist-80-axle.html

You will see how the Chevy TREs are used. I guess the OEM TREs can be used too.

You could be right about the geometry I haven't really measured any thing yet. But I think as shown in the picture below from the link; this could do the trick.

I told you man I was zinxed :hillbilly:.

The more I think about it, there's gotta be a way you can mount the RAM some where behind the axle so it can be attached to the tie rod. The space is real tight there and it will require some very clean and precise fabrication of the mounts. I need to crawls under there and take a good look at it. I will try that this weekend.

Riad....

Sorry I am making you spend more money... :)

I would contact "kirk" or "IBCRUSN" since kirk already has a pretty bad ass set up with the 10" hydro ram and Kris is working on his as well.

They should be able to help you out.

No Worries Onur :). There's nothing like getting a little zinxed as motivation to work on the 80. I need to do bunch of stuff any way. Parts are sitting around all over the garage and in the house (for other small little PMs and stuff) that I've been putting off and they need to be installed. I needed a kick start.

I went through Kirk's thread again since I remembered after you mentioned about Kirk and found the following pix. This is exactly what I was thinking just couldn't put it in picture. So thanks for pointing me to the right direction ;)

This is what I'm looking for!Anyone have a link to this build?Or know who's setup it is so I can search it?

The way to measure for ram throw length is drop a plumb bob off of your tie rod approximately where you want your cylinder to mount, with properly adjusted steering stops, go full lock left, make a mark on the floor, go full lock right, make a mark on the floor and measure between them. I think you will find it is between an 8" and 10" ram.

Nice setup but it wouldn't work on an e-locker axle.

10" is what I have been told, mine is on backorder.
