Putting thoughts to (digital) paper for the next project...

I have to say that the advances in 3D modeling really make "making" a lot easier. You can draw everything to exact size and figure out any interference or other complications in advance - basically fully "build" the item on screen. Used to be I'd scribble things out on a piece of paper - or, more likely, an opened up oil filter box or similar floating around the shop. Then there'd be the tweaking and backtracking as I'd go along because the dimensions were just approximate and some things didn't work out the way I had seen them.

Another advantage of having everything modeled is that it is an easy step to port the file out for CNC cutting, milling, routing, or 3D printing if that makes more sense than making the pieces by hand. Having access to a plasma table, CNC mill and lathe, 3D printers, and plastic routing spoils a person quickly. I need to find someone local with a CNC wood routing system to experiment with that as well.

Why won't your plastic router router wood? At work we use the same machines to route both...I use the CNC mills and lathe in my work area to machine wood as well as metals and plastics.

The guy I know that does the plastic work only does plastic with it. He doesn't want sawdust in the mix. Not my machine, so I can't argue with the rules.

So, the other week my eighty-plus-year-old father nearly took a bad spill in his garage. The steps to the kitchen have never had a handrail since it was built in the late sixties. I guess better late than never.

Bent up a tube, cut out some plates, welded them on, and powdercoated everything up. Have to head over there this afternoon to install it for them.

Finally got my '66 nailhead painted. Neighbor built a few years ago but sold car before it went in and he offered to me for cheap. Came with a NOS Carter AFB but I've scrounged an intake and one of the correct carbs for a dual quad setup. If anyone happens to have an original Buick dual quad air cleaner - I'm interested.

My son came to me saying, "Hey Dad, let's build a kicker for the shop guys @ work, so we can do little jumps and small gaps on the sidewalk."
(I'll have to make a landing wedge ramp now too)

He's started GROMing at a local bike shop... Basically washes rentals and learns some mt bike wrenching and maintenance.
