Projecting, tinkering, fiddle-farting around: whatcha building?

Got a couple of surplus electronic countermeasures dollies for cheap and able to get two engine stand bases out of each. '64 Buick 401 nailhead. Working on second for a '72 Buick 455.

In the extended lull at Mark’s Off Road, I’m splitting the bulk of my time between overhauling the front end of my swb45 and building a whimsical storage shed. Whimisical? Because it’s a crazy octagonal, where no two sides are the same! And, to make it even more impractical, instead of cutting wedges to make a slope for runoff, I deliberately chose to build all 6 walls from front to back with a progressive slope.

Why?

Some people enjoy soduku ; I enjoy trying to visualize things three dimensionally, then trying to build them without anything but a few numbers scratched on a piece of paper. This is why my cabinetry business across the street from my current shop never got off the ground: my best friend from college, who was also very interested in woodworking, couldn’t build anything without a complete drawing first.

And the bigger why: I plan to build something slightly less whimsical at home, and I considered this a POC (proof of concept)

I bevel cut all the corners in the table saw, one custom angle after another. Again, I enjoyed the challenge. My wife and I just had a slight change of direction in our remodeling plans at home Saturday , and I may end up building a custom linen closet. The refresher on creating exact bevels on the fly could save me a lot of $$ on wasted lumber when it’s time for furniture tolerances.
