I did not. This thing has a tow bar bracket. Maybe it was a brake deal when it was flat towed.

I thought the rust converter was a flat black but it's actually clear. Slightly satin if anything. I think I'll spray everything but the exterior with it and maybe follow up with paint. I'm not sure if it needs paint to finish the process.

Anyone know?

I got everything out this afternoon that is coming off to be cleaned up or tossed.

This is the final under hood pic

I spent a dumb amount of time taking the column shifter off. I ended up cutting it off in the end but I still had to remove an the hardware.

This is what the rust bullet stuff looks like after it's been applied. This was very rusted. Worst part of the truck.

All I did was pressure wash then apply the spray

Tons more to do. I've got a full day tomorrow.

Rust treat.

Clean up inside more.

Drill out rusted ass broken bolts.

Clean more.

Not going to stop this part until it's motor ready.

After its ready to take the motor I need to do:

Alignment. I didn't even get close.

Front axle rebuild.

Brake lines.

If also restore the interior

The split bench is actually in good shape. I can run it as is.

That said, if this thing turns into something I like to drive a lot I'll find some later model buckets.

Did you decide not to clear coat the exterior? I see so much of that on car shows and in articles.

Love the build and check for progress ever couple of days.

I don't think you'd be able to get the wax out of all the little crevices and it would end up looking like ass.

Yeah on the wax.

Man, this Rust restorer is the cats ass. Perfect for this project. You can see the imperfections but it puts a slight satin coat on everything.

I've done the engine compartment and about 1/4 of the frame with 2 cans.

I'm wire brushing flakes off. Hitting with air then painting.

So damn cool.

For comparison the axle and springs are still bare.

Man I like that. I would try to preserve as much with that method as possible. Is there anywhere you could try it on a patina paint to see what it would look like?

I think it would cost a whole lot of time and money to get everything but the exterior looking new. Just rattle can, would take away from the "preservation" you are doing. The type of guy that will buy this when you are done for a price that won't break you will appreciate the coolness of the the preservation. A truck with that much cool character but mechanically on point would be a rare thing out there. It is almost a barn find process.

My whole body hurts from huffing the first 6 cans.

I'm about to tackle the rear of the frame and be done with this stuff.

So the longer it cures the more black it looks.

Unlike paint, if you miss some dirt and spray this over it you don't get painted dirt. Just the metal that is chemically bonding turns.

It's interesting and I'm happy with the look unpainted. I'm brushing all the underside and hosing it with this stuff.

Lookin good.

It turns black on the rust. Goes on clear then the rust kill happens and it goes black.

I got it back in the shop. Passenger side rear is in great shape. It cleaned up nicely and got coated.

Before and after

The other side had a big ass dent. I took a BFH and beat it reasonably straight.

Inside this fender it's messy but I got it cleaned up and sprayed.

In the center of the pic above there is a box that is part of the tub. I think it is supposed to be sealed but both sides are rusted out and they were completely packed with sand. I dug and blew it all out with air. I'm gonna seal them up. May put foam in there to fill them up. Someone must sell an automotive Great Stuff expanding foam huh?

I'm beat up. That s*** is work. I have just the box area in the rear and inside of the frame back there left. I'm out till Wednesday so that's how it gets left.

The worst part of this truck is under the drivers seat along the rocker. There is enough material there to attach a scab. I'll have to wrap my head around it. May have to take it to 2 Bucket Fab when I'm finished and get him to put some metal in there.

For now I evened up the jagged edges and treated the metal.

Or I could but weather stripping on the edges and just drop my Mic Ultra cans out of the hole as I tool around

2 bucket Fab has a nice ring to it.

Id repair that...

Lol. Yeah, it's gotta be fixed. I can only imagine all the mess that would end up back in my truck with that hole.

Couple more shots of the rear inners all treated. It's interesting this stuff doesn't really show up on a painted surface.
