Fairly productive day. Weather cooperated too!
Epoxy primed tub.
Waited 90 minutes for it to flash and then sprayed the Raptor liner (should equal a great chemical bond b/w the layers). Did two coats waiting ~hour in between. Used 3 (kit contains 4) bottles so I've got 1 left to do other misc pieces (trans tunnel, etc.).
Very happy with how this stuff goes on. Crazy easy and looks pro!

Thanks! A couple guys doing a remodel on the house next door helped. Took all of 2 minutes.

Not much doing today. Weather wasn't the best for body work. Did get some more seam sealing done in prep for eventual paint. Lacquer thinner smells good and strong working in a closed up shop.

Yesterday = Epoxy primer/sealer final coat on!
First couple coats of 2k primer...lots of blocking in my future this weekend. Maybe, just maybe I can shoot some color today...didn't happen...

Today = a s***-ton of sanding. Unfortunately I made a mistake and only sanded the few spots of filler with 80 scratch before sealing and primer...which left sanding marks after wet sanding the primer - fxxx.
Whomever invented glazing putty is my hero and I owe them some beer. Even though I still had to shoot another two coats of primer, this stuff probably saved me from doing another round. It goes on so smooth and sands very nice. Note to self...sand filler with 220 scratch befor priming and you'll save yourself some time!
Tomorrow looks like another day of wet sanding primer and shooting a couple coats on the tub...

You didn't hear...this is a new lab strain, doesn't shed!
More progress and I'm fxxxing tired! I hope all this sanding is worth it, cause it is getting tedious and super old after a couple days. Luckily the hood, fenders, aprons, windshield frame, bib and trans tunnel are done, just waiting on color.
Barn doors need wet sanding after primer coats 3 and 4. Tub got another coat of epoxy sealer then two coats of primer. Wet sanding and then likely two more primer coats then more wet sanding.
This s*** takes a ton more time than I planned...
Don't laugh at my jerry rigged masking job!
Wow, Jon. Great work and dedication. You're obviously not arthritic...I can barely hold a sponge long enough to wash a car, let alone a sanding block to sand the whole thing. I'm guessing you'll start painting something small and easy to redo first, like a door, while you get the hang of the color gun?

Ha - unfortunately I am semi arthritic and I've recently developed numb fingers...likely CTD or carpel tunnel. I'll rest them once it finish but for now it's ice in the evening and Advil 4 times a day!
I'll start painting the underside of the parts like hood, aprons, bib, tunnel, etc as practice. Lots of masking in my future. I'm excited about color and keep thinking I'll get it this weekend but I don't want to start until everything (major parts) is ready.

Yeah...the guy at the paint store convinced me otherwise AND its only 600 scratch...just easier and less dusty wet than dry. We'll see if it makes a difference as I'm only hitting certain parts of panels. Not doing underside of the hood, bib, aprons, etc. etc. Just panels that are person facing and not hidden by other parts, gaskets, weatherstripping.
I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said, but it looks amazing!
I felt the same way about wet sanding until I had somebody take some time and show me the difference it makes. Now I'm a believer in it.

Slight change of plans...bigger booth and setup in the garage as today is forecasted to be windy.
I'm looking forward to see the paint when finished. Jon, spraying the paint is actually the easy part. You are finishing up the hard part. I remember when sanding out my CJ7 thinking, How can there be soooooo much wet sanding on such a small body. Practice a little with the gun, see how the paint you are using "flows", that is the key to most paints, how they flow.

Holy fxxxing s***...I spent all fxxxing day setting up the booth and taping off parts. Took way longer than I anticipated, but it's done. Had to add 3 more inlet air filters as there wasn't enough for the 2300cfm fan I'm using. Works great now. Enough air flow to clear the booth quickly but not a noticeable breeze.
Oh, the Hobbyair positive pressure full mask is the ticket. It's like air condition for my face!!

Got color! Was able to shoot two coats on some panels. Overall, I'm pleased (perfectionist) and really like the color. It's an Audi code called Nardo gray and is typically only offered on the RS cars.
Not sure what these little bumps are? Dust?? They are fairly small and not really noticable unless very close to the panel.
