hey all! I’ve started tear down on my project. I have a 1991 TLC. Got it for $200, it was already hacked. So the plan is to keep it convertible and cage it and make a custom top for it. Also plan on swapping in a 5.3l vortec out of a 2003 pickup and got my 4l60e 2wd trans. I am keeping the stock tcase and will be picking up a marks adapter sometime next month hopefully. It will be a slow build. Hopefully completed by the end of the year. I have a lot of work to do. I am also selling my a440 trans to anyone interested. Has 200k miles. Any words of wisdom and help along the way will be appreciated. I am pulling the drive train out today(3/14/18) and hopefully getting the body off so I can get the frame sandblasted and primed.

Looks like the vortec is ready to rock.

That is quite a project. That truck is something else. I am curious to see how far this one goes. Good luck!

Really easing into the build slow and steady. Good call.

Just kidding. I'm pumped. I often dream of an LS in my chopped 80.

It’s going to go slow unfortunately. My goal is to have it done by the end of the year, no later than next summer

Probably some parts people could use in that 3FE too.

Keep us posted. This project could be a doozy.

Got the front clip off today. Hoping to get the body off by the weekend. I want to get the frame and axles off to be sand blasted at the end of the month or first weekend of April. I’m either going to be doing the frame and axles in the steel-it coatings or Eastwood’s line. Any other suggestions are welcome for coating the frame l?

For Indiana..... I would think about galvanizing it.

I am a fan of POR15 for frames.

Do NOT use Steel-it. It's too thin and will develop rust quickly. Use the Eastwood or version of POR15. Or hot dip galvanize it........new set of problems....

Actually, a sandblast / beadblast, then a good epoxy primer and a couple coats of black epoxy such as the John Deere Black would be a great way to finish off the frame for durability.

I thought about the galvanizing route. I might go with Eastwood then. I hear way too many mixed stories with POR. I’ll look into the John Deere black as well! Thanks!

Take a look at some of the stuff @2fpower has done. It looks good when complete. Check out the "Unholy Ute" thread.

Just a suggestion, Looking at how high those driveway pavers are stacked, and the bow in those wood planks holding that body up, it might be a good idea to look for something a little more appropriate to support that load.

I Know. It is lowered back down. Needed to raise it to clear the rear shock mounts. Also added in a middle row of blocks

Got everything minus the radius arms removed from the front today. Started on the back but had to PB Blast Everything. A lot of bolts are so rusted the heads are flaking apart

Unfortunately going to have to replace the shafts all the splines are pretty non existent. Anyone have preference of long fields or RCV? Also anyone done redline cruisers rear disc kit?
