Days 78 & 79

I completed the half doors, they came out pretty good. I bent up some angle iron and welded into place to cap the top off. This gave me a supper clean bend line and a nice back edge. I decided to keep everything simple and not go with the pocket idea. I’m just going to use the stock handle. Next I have to prep the barn doors, hood and bib then off to the media blasters.

Days 80 - 82

I got the tub back from the media blaster. It came out great, pretty straight and zero cancer! Cleaned it up, placed into my booth and laid down a few coats of DP90LF. Let the body work begin…

Days 83 & 84

Once the epoxy primer dried, I had a friend help me out with all the body work (actually he did it himself). I didn’t want to spend weeks trying to get everything straight and perfect so I called in reinforcements. All I can say is that is almost perfect and were not done yet.

Days 85 - 89

Thanks guys for all your support, it really helps in the motivation department of my project.

Well today I finally got a complete rolling chassis, except for the front calipers. I had to remove them so I could use the stock wheels. Just in time because I will be moving my shop at the end of the month.

All the major body work has been done on the tub! I thought it was never going to end. I still have to prep the all the doors, fenders, bib and hood but that shouldn’t take that long because they are really straight already.

I put the tub in the booth and laid another coat down of DP90 epoxy primer and 3 – 4 coats of fill primer. It came out pretty sweet! Can you say seamless FJ40, literally there are no seams anymore! Next I have to block the tub and then it will be ready for color. I’m thing silver…

Days 90 - 92

After countless hours of body work the tub was finally ready for blocking and then wet sanding. Then I fitted the doors to insure a proper fit. I can’t wait to lay down some color.

Looks awesome. Congrats on the progress.

FWIW, I was always told to adjust the doors only if you had the tub bolted down to your frame, as everything twists. Not trying to bust your bubble, more of a FYI.

@ 2fpower, thanks for the tip about the doors. I sure hope your right because I could not get one door to line up perfectly. Maybe putting the tub on the frame will straight it out.

Day 93

Finished the body work on a few body parts and put them back into the booth. Laid down a coat of DP90 and few coats of primer filler. Now they are ready for blocking and wet sanding.

Days 94 - 96

I fitted the barn doors with new hardware and prepped then for paint. Next I added some 3M seam sealer to the one remaining seam I had left. It’s finally ready for some color!

Day 97

Prepped the tub top and bottom for bed liner (Upol Raptor black) before I painted. I thought it would be safer and easer this way. Then I placed The tub into the booth and taped everything off. It’s time for some primer sealer!

Day 98a

Part 1

I started off by laying down a coat of PCL prime n seal epoxy primer. Then four coats of Limco color (I picked a silver color off of a 2011 Lexus that I admire) and then two coats of DuPont clear. All I can say is AMAZING! Not bad for my first paint job.
