Day 56

Finally got the tub in the air, now I can start working on it. I plan on filling all the light holes, seems, bolts holes that are not needed, and fixing the one cancer spot in the rear. I think the cancer spot needs to be cut out and replace.

Day 57

Started working on the exhaust system. I order a bunch of mandrel bent tubing and cut, welded, and grinded it down to complete the crossover pipe then routed it into a “Y”. So far so got but way harder than I thought it was going to be.

Looking really good. You definately have the skill, looks good. You're going to like the 700R4, I put one in my build behind the sbc and it sure is nice.

Keep the pics coming.

Man, your exhaust looks sharp. Looks just like how I routed mine. The only thing I did different (but mine is a trail truck), is off the PS header, the elbow that leads under the oil pan, I had to do some surgery to the elbow to tighten up the bend a little and get it closer to the oil pan to give my drive shaft a little more clearance. I could only get three fingers stacked vertical between the DS and the exhaust. May want to look at that closer when you get the DS in. BTW I did use 2.5 in exhaust pipe, mandrel bent. Great build man, looks great, can't wait to see it finished.

Wow you have got a lot done! This is going to be a neat ride when you get it all done! Wish I had the skill set to do that much that fast!

Keep up the good work!

Are you gonna run an aux. fuel tank between the rails in the rear or stay with under the seat tank. Im asking because i ran into extremely tight measures to route my 2 into 1 exhaust out the rear. Hopefully you wont have this situation. You cant see it in any of my pics but im gonna have to cut it out and dump it right before the pumpkin. The 4-link rear and a stretched wheel base didnt help any either. Dont gring yer welds, strength is lost when material is ground down.

You've got an unbelievable amount of shop space to work in, what a plus, not tripping over stuff. Looks dynamite keep snapping pics!!

i wish i had your work area! cruiser is looking awsome. very clean detailed work. keep it up!!!!

Your skills far surpass mine , That's for sure . Great work.

Thank you for all your support, you guys are too kind!

@ burnttoastburgos I moved my fuel tank to the rear that I got out of an s10. I plan on running two 2.5” pipes that dumped right behind the rear tires. It’s very tight but I think it will fit. I hope to have it that part finish by the end of the weekend. Stay tuned for more pictures…

Day 58

Fabricated a small bracket to suspend the muffler and temporarily mounted it to the frame. I still need to paint it along with the bump stops. I’ll do that next time I get some booth time.

Day 59

I finally finished half of the exhaust system. Routed the 3” pipe all the back to the muffler. I came out pretty good but it was harder than I thought it was going to be.

Anybody have any ideas on what to coat the exhaust pipes with? I may ceramic coat it but I was hopping that there was something I could do myself.

Days 60 & 61

Mocked up the rear section of the exhaust system and made some more exhaust mounts. I finished welded all the seams and then grinded them all smooth. Next I put two coats of high temperature paint to finish it off.

That exhaust is a work of art man! Nice job.

I'm a little worried about the inside edge of your rear tires rubbing on the exhaust. Did you test fit a wheel/tire? Sweet build!

Hey man love to story, pics, and build. I am dreaming of the same thing. I'm picking up my frame and axels this weekend. i was curious i thought when doin a SOA you had to have the weight of the full cruiser on the springs in order get the right alighment? Other than that looks freeeaking sweet!!!

Exhaust is sweet! Are you going to run a hard top the whole time? If not, you may want to think about angling those pipes towards the sides a bit. Mine was sucking in fume until I did that.

Much thanks for all the words of encouragement!

@ 77TLCFJ40, I am a little worried about that too. I test fitted a 30 inch tire and plan on going with a 36s. I most likely will not have a problem unless I’m hardcore wheeling. My plan is that if I do have a problem I will cut, shorten and rotate a few degrees. This will make the tips go out the side instead of the rear and give more clearance. I was going to do this in the beginning but the tips going out the rear look so much better plus, it keeps the IROC theme.

@ cruzrlovr, When I did my SOA I just had the drive train in. I figured that the frame would lower between 1.25-2.00 inches with all the total weight. Plus my set up makes the front drive shaft really long so, as long as the pinion angle is close I’ll be in great shape. I made the caster angle 5 degrees based off the perch being horizontal.

@ rutbeer, yes I plan on running this setup without a top. Do you have a picture of your old setup? I know that I might get fumes sucking back like this. My original plan was to have them pointing out the side but this looks a lot better. I was hopping with the tips being so close to the outside corners that the air turbulence coming off the back of my rig may not affect it much. If it does, I plan on experiment with a diffuser inside the tips and or off the bumper to fix this problem. And if it’s still a problem then, I will cut, shorten and rotate a few degrees so they come out the side.

I don't. Yours is wider than mine though, I was not outside the frame at that point, so you may not have an issue. Dunno. Post up the results!

Day 63

Replaced the S10 fuel pump (14 psi) with the IROC fuel pump (50 psi). This was needed to run my fuel injection engine. Then bent up and mounted a new brake line.
