beef up the axles

I've thought of that combo a time or two myself!SWEEEET!! Well since you asked, I would probably consider swapping out to some sort of 1 ton axle set - dana 60's - or 60/14 bolt - you know what I mean! You know the problems I'm sure with both front and rear Toy axles - weak birfs, weak pinions, knuckles bending,etc... and with that much more torque ? Carnage. Unless all you are doing is mild street driving? Yeah right! I've seen your videos! I have a customer who wants me to drop in an 03' dodge cummins combo w/6 speed manual, axles, suspension - the whole deal! Crazy! But the axles are my only real concern. Good luck, and I can't wait to see this one either.

OK so here is the plan:

I will install the 6.6 Duramax with the allison tranny. The transfercase may be swapped out for an Atlas. Not sure yet.

Either way the axles will need some serious work. Also since I am going to graft in the engine/tranny it so it's no big deal.

May need a body lift for the tranny clearance. But SOA IS A MUST!

Anyone got an idea for ECU programming?? I have read a few out there but still getting into this one.

I will be able to get the measurements of the total combo later in the week first part of next. They are getting ready to pull it.

Thinking of going OME heavys with an add a leaf. I don't have curb weight of the combo but it is heavy! Any suggestions from the suspension experts will be greatly appreciated!

yea yea i know (bastards...) so did ya see my "new" benz i brought home? (i sent you a link)

as far as a name goes... hows about "project up in smoke"? (as Diesels smoke)

I have been rolling on the thought of 1 tons. Dana's. Butthen again I am in the planning phase. What are you doing with another diesel??

OH how about this one:

Project D-MAX FJ6.6 :flipoff2:

   That was good Tapage! I am pretty much decided on the 14 bolt Dana since I have one available. Next comes the good stuff...Suspension!

The Harness

My good friends at Fuel Injection Specialties have offered to take a stab at reworking my harness. I know they will do a great job at it. Jeff Mcmanus over there has always taken care of me. And they have access to all the diagrams that I would have to buy! Again a big thanks goes out to the whole shop over there.

Well this is the official Project start. I have gotten a lot of calls already and made a bunch myself in regards to different aspects of the build. But as I stated before the plan is:

Install a Chevy Duramax 6.6 turbo diesel backed with the Allison 6 speed tranny and possibly the transfer case into a 1980's 60 series.

Perform a SOA and install new DANA 60 axles with lockers.

Possible body lift and other mods will be in the works.

For everyone out there that says," It isn't feasible!" I am going to prove you wrong and have a good time doing it!!

Also I am looking at making it a sponsored rig but haven't made up my mind on that one yet. I guess I need to get that settled before I get to crazy and spend all my lunch money.

More to come and thanks for all the cool names!

well good luck, and I can't wait for the pics!!! Make sure to post some vids too!

 Good luck. Please record a video when you smoke a mustang with a SOA 60.

fun conversion

Enjoy!

:)

You know im down to help.

YOU KNOW I WILL!!! I will need all the support I can get on this one. I have some pics coming up of the drive train. Stay tuned.

And if the Mod's could merge the previous thread that would be great!

merged..

THIS is going to be an amazing build. Are you going to keep the 6.6 stock, or are you going to tune it to get max power?

Definitely watching this one!:beer::beer:

The plan is to keep it stock at first. Work out the issues from the install and get a few miles on it to se how the truck acts. After that I was thinking of a twin turbo set up with the piggy back programmer. But only after I get it driven hard and put to bed wet! :D

Wow.. Randy... that's going to be one sick ride !!!

Where da pics brah ????
I should be finish with my swap by the time you put yours on the road........Yah think ???:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

I might have to have a few of these made up. :p
