Anyone have a long term update of these shocks quality? Get what you pay for, or still surprised they're working so well?

After 6 months they still feel great to me. (Jeez has it been that long already?)

How's the compression dampening in comparison to rebound dampening?

I think the dampening, both compression and rebound would be considered on the stiff side by most people, especially compared to the OME's. Both both ways feels roughly similar....that may be due to the fact that the Pro Comp's have a variable valving to them instead of a fixed valving.

Pro Comp Flex!

Here are some pics I took last night. As I mentioned before on this thread, one of my shocks blew up after only 2 months of use. After consulting with Ebag, I checked the flex to see if my shocks in the rear were being over compressed. As you can see below, I have a little over an inch left once the bump stop contacts the axle. Hopefully it was just a factory lemon. The shocks have been performing very well!!

thanks for doing the research on this ebag. these look to be an economical alternative for a longer shock. since the 530s and 514s are marginally loonger than the Ls in both extended and compressed lengths, do you think they'd be more suitable for a 6" lift vs the L? i know slee runs the Ls in his kit, but i think they're too short for it. these ones are bolt in, not too much longer and dont need adapters to alter the travel and lengths...

i think i may have found the shocks i need (cheap too @ $39 each from summit...anyone know of a better deal?) so i can finally put in my 6" coils.

can anyone compare the on road feel to an L? with or without swaybars?

thanks!

Not only are the Pro Comp's travel a bit longer, but their body is longer--meaning that the travel is perhaps more suitable for taller lifts.

The catch is that you need to check to make sure you're not over compressing them, you might need to drop your bump stops down a bit depending on how you setup the shocks and how big a tire you're running.

I haven't run the L shocks, but from what I understand they are the same feel as the standard OME's. IMHO the OME shocks are way too soft. Supposedly it's soft to help with washboard roads, but I've been on some nasty washboard and had better luck with the stiffer Pro Comp's than I did with the OME's.

I haven't tried their new nitrochargers which are stiffer than the originals.

Anyway, on road the Pro Comp's aren't a "cushy" ride like the OME's are. You definitely feel the road far more than you do with the OME's (or OEM). IMHO handling is greatly improved. That being said, they are not harsh at all, I find them comfortable.

I only run with swaybars on the road, so I cannot attest to running without them.

Hey good pics and nice cruiser, I am glad they are working out for you.

Cody.

Thanks Cody! .. I am really very happy with them.

That's an eye/eye shock, so adapters would need to be added, or the shock mounts redone.

Plus it's only a 10" travel shock. If you want a shock that bolts right in and don't need much travel, see post #1.

I want to run OME 850/863's so these would be the best choice?

Code:
927530 2.00	16.27	27.76	11.49 Stud	Stud	Yes
927514 2.00	16.27	27.76	11.49 Stud	Eye	Yes

Those would be a good choice. You may have to drop your bump stops down some.

If you read through this thread, you will find many posts on various shock lengths and applications.

Yea I read up on the thread...will order some bump stop extensions just incase and check the compression out once they are installed. Going to order them tonight but backordered till the end of the month.

4WheelParts offers them as well as Summit, and a few other companies.

Have you run any of the OME shocks with Frankie's springs? I am curious how they compare in the real world to the ProComps or the shocks Frankie supplies. I am not looking to swap, the ProComps are an awesome option, just curious...........

(I suspect the OME shocks are softer due to the brutally high spring rates they are generally paired with.)

I have not. I'd love to get the FOR springs, it'd be interesting to see how the Pro Comp's work with them.

927530 for the front and 927514 for the rear if I'm running jsprings a good choice?

That's what I'm on with an extra rubber in the front and the Pro Comps work great. just see the post I just did on the steering stablizer that goes with it if you want to complete the kit.

Here's some additional measurements/pics of the 924530 model. This is the pro-comp recommended stock replacement stud/stud shock for the front.

I ordered these up as one of my ome's had a blown seal. Figured I'd give them a try. Listed measurements according to 4wp's website is 24.84 in. extended; 14.82 in. collapsed.

With OME heavies and not much weight, I wanted a slightly longer extended length shock than the OME's, which I measured at 24 1/8 extended.

Got the package today and this is what I found:

One of the shocks had a decent amount of overspray on it. No big deal, a little steal wool cleaned it right up. But then I put them side by side with the OME's.

Not quite as long. Hrmm. Should be about a half inch longer according to the posted measurements on the web. :meh:

FYTaX.jpg

Long story short they measure out to about 23.75 instead of 24.84. Since I only have about 3.5 inches extension currently, this would drop it down to ~ 3 inches. Pretty much the reverse of what I was looking for. So...the guys at 4wp were quite helpful and I'll be returning the shocks, to begin the search again!

Just an FYI for people considering these; not sure if its a common theme on procomp's but these measured out to an inch under what was listed. FYI.

Here's a shot of the bushings in comparison to the OME's as well. (I had hoped to keep one set of the OME's as a spare bushing set, but the stud size on the shock is much smaller on the procomps, so no luck there.)
