I welded a nut in a bar which screws into one of the bolts on the spare tire carrier face, this allows me to drop the tailgate to dead level with the bed - and can thread in or out to make up for uneven surfaces.

its alot handier than dropping it all the way down and makes it easier to yank up being at waist height.
