I have a LC-200 series and have been trying to find the same solution. Have a Glock .40 Model 22 that I either keep on the driver's side door or the center console, but neither are a good solution. I have a Concealed Weapons Permit (along with my Class 3!), so not worried about hiding it in the vehicle, but at the same time dont want it laying out in the open for the world to see when the vehicle is parked. Take pics if you mount the Sherpa. Be interested to see how much room you have.

Regards,

I've been trying to find a solution to this myself. I usually just use the center console but it would be hard to get to it in a hurry there. Has anyone tried a holster mounted under the seat? Very out of sight but it would still be accessible.

I like this but i am wondering if the whole console will be gone when i get back to the truck. If you can secure it the floor somehow, this would be an excellent mod.

You could definately secure it to the floor somehow. Some use a locking cable -

alot of them have the mounting hardware only accessable from inside the safe. I think most car thefts are smash and grab, so if it's not out obvious, or takes any real time to fool with, you're safe. Certainly having it out of sight is a big advantage to not tempt them in the first place.

To quote the late great (and American) Bill Hicks:

...England, where no one has guns: 14 deaths. United States, and I think you know how we feel about guns: 23,000 deaths from handguns. But there's no connection, and you'd be a fool and a comunist to make one. There's no connection between having a gun and shooting someone with it, and not having a gun and not shooting someone. . . . And those 14 were probably caused by American tourists...

SO I'm curious - do matches cause forest fires? If you would actually educate yourself on CCW statistics - there are very few shootings by CCW holders - because they actually know how to use a weapon and are educated on local gun laws and procedures. Now back to the real topic!

I have a 3" Kimber 1911 I'm trying to figure out where I can mount also. Problem is you can't mount it on the console in TX b/c then it is no longer concealed.
I like the idea of under the steering wheel - would be fairly accessible.

Subscribed! Interested to see what you come up with.

At the risk of further flames (take your fingers off the triggers), I never once stated not to carry. I simply quoted a very funny man. Your colourful response makes me wonder...

I'm quite happy here in Canada where I do not know one single person that sees any need to permanently mount a weapon in their vehicle.

If no one can see the humour in Hick's quote (whether the numbers are slightly exagerated or spot on), then you are all taking life FAR TOO SERIOUSLY.

I am quite positive you knew the kind of response you were going to get to your post. Pretending that you were simply trying being witty is a sign of regret on your part, nothing more. The fact that you and your friends do not find a need to carry a gun in the vehicle has nothing to do with this thread, therefore you had no logical reason to post anything in it. You can believe whatever you like, but my advice is to search out a liberal minded group on the internet to discuss your opinion on guns and gun control. You are few in number so you need to stick together. One day you will become a realist and leave your socialist views behind you. Keep on keepin' on.

Now back gun storage in vehicles! Creeper, are you saying you are going to start producing some sort of 80 series gun locker for us??

Unorthodox mounting.

The front seats of my wife's car have a pocket right on the bottom front that will fit a compact pistol perfectly. It is not a secure option but it works. Personally, I have used pipe insulation in the pocket in the console to hold a few different pistols. Again, none of these options are secure so the pistol goes with me when I leave the vehicle. Because I can...ABSOLUTELY!

I'm all for gun rights, but lets keep some perspective. The Constitution gives you the right to possess guns, but it's up to each of use to do it responsibly.

1) PLEASE let the cop know you're armed ESPECIALLY if you decide to mount it under the dash or on the console. Otherwise, you may innocently reach for something (registration, set the e-brake, whatever) and he may innocently blow your head off. The good news is that you're both innocent. The bad news is that brains are hard to clean up.

2) It is your responsibility to secure that gun. Locked in a vehicle is not secure - we all know cars get broken into regularly. Take it with you (best), put it in a lock box, chain it, disassemble and take the barrel, whatever. I can't quote any stats, but I am quite certain a significant portion/majority of non-domestic homicides are committed with stolen guns. If your gun gets stolen, whatever happens with it after that should be on your conscience.

I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, but I have seen a lot of dumbass stuff done with guns (and this includes CCW permit holders and LEOs). Seriously, a CCW permit is like a drivers license: it just allows you to carry it, but doing it right is on you.

Marc311 - I agree, that would be the first thing I told the officer if I ever get pulled over and hand over my card with my drivers licence and I almost always take it out of the vehicle when I get out. We all agree it is our right to carry it, and our responisbility to do it safely.

Now back to where to mount it safely and securly. So I don't have to have it dig in my back/hip/leather...

Mostly in the glove box, more discreet.

But, I did something similar to what Landpimp (I think) originally did, I recycled an old Safariland paddle holster and the gap right below the steering wheel holds it pretty good:meh:

Carry the same way in my truck. As much as I hate my ankle holster, but in terms of driving it is ideal in the car and or truck.

I have one question on the shotgun mount, what is the intended use? For hunting? Not sure I see the point of a defense shotgun in the truck. I would mount it out of sight in the floor between the first and second row. Maybe make a false floor and cover in carpet to keep it out of sight. Also type of shotgun? Coach shotguns are pretty short. Two shots would be fine in defense and retreat with a 12 gauge at close range...

Another idea is a pistol grip short barrel mossberg 930 if they make one. Not sure if it would be legal due to length or just pay the tax... Mount it along the passanger side of the trans tunnel and lay a color matched carpet over it?

Post pick of the final setup!

Absolutely right Mark. Good point.

Where is creeper? Are you going to have something fabbed up by Monday?

I completely agree with this. I have a short barrel benelli autoloader for home defense because buckshot doesn't make it through walls as well as bullets, but wouldn't even consider one for personal defense in a vehicle. If I were worried about extra firepower, which i'm not, I'd mount an AR, not a shotgun.

Why not all 3, 16 rounds of 9mm + 8 rounds of 00buck + 20 rounds of .308 from a FAL and that’s without reloading. I don't know that I will mount anything more than a pistol but if you have a large gun case and want to go hunting camping, shooting, ect, and want to take other stuff with you a gun case can take up a bit of room. It might be nice to mount the guns to leave more room for other stuff. I was more interested in what and where people have or are thinking about mounting, not whether they should or not.

I spend a lot of time fighting to keep our gun rights here in the states. It's something that I feel very strongly about! Equally as strong as keeping trails open for us. The problem is what you quoted was not only completely off base, it wasn't funny. All you are doing is giving people who are not educated on the topic more ammo against us... No matter how true it is. Watch what you say in a public forum.

I completely agree with you! But that doesn't mean that responsible gun owners shouldn't exercise their right to carry a firearm however they see fit.

I don't know if I will be producing anything, however I will show pics and process of everything that I do for you guys to copy!

It wouldn't be for vehicle personal defense, it would be for "camp defense!". My 80 is not my daily driver. I want to be able to take my home defense Remington 870 and have a hidden, secure, easy access place for it while on expeditions or extended camping trips. This would not be something that would always be in the 80...

I think a WagonGear Tailgate lid and some mounting hardware inside the tail gate would be a great place for long gun storage. www.wagongear.com

I really like that safe...too bad handguns are restricted firearms here and I can't just take it anywhere with me.

I think if you had a sticker on the back of your truck like your avatar, no one would mess with your stuff for fear of getting their ass kicked. :D

That is a sweet locker! .. Hey Stone, all we have to do is field strip our shotguns, cut the barrel in a few pieces and jam it all in there! Technically we could just have one of those stands bolted to the floor, but then it wouldn't be hidden from view. I guess if I was a gang banger, I could just leave my pistol loaded under my seat and not worry about it. Membership has it's privileges!

:D

Also make sure if you are pulled over at night, please have all the interior lights on and require paper work on the dashboard. When you tell a trooper you have a permit and a gun, it makes them nervous.I also make it a habit to put my wallet on the dashboard. It just makes one less thing to get when i get pulled.

CCW permits are nice but make sure you know the laws. Criminals have rights too.:bang::bang::bang:
