I've used pullers to remove other pilot bearings, but now after 'loafing' it and seeing how easy and well it worked on a seriously stuck bearing, bread will be the first and best option for pilot removal.

The other thing white bread works great for is plugging water pipes while you solder them.

Good to know I'm not the only one that does this.

I have a pilot bearing to remove and will be building a carriage bolt tool for backup but I just have to try the bread thing first. It is just so.... cruiser tech! :hillbilly:

Okay, so I bought a $1 loaf of white bread. Took it out to the barn where my motor sits on a stand. Started packing bread into the hole, all the while feeling more and more like I was on a MUD snipe hunt. Figured I had been had by the best and in keeping with the tradition I was going to post how well it worked even if it didn't. Just to send another newbie down the imfamous bearing removal with bread road. Well, it actually worked!! Only took one slice of bread and it came out just fine. Used a 3/8 extension wrapped with electrical tape. Tip o' the hat to whoever tried that first. Probably related to the first guy that opened an oyster and said "Mmmm that looks tasty!".

I had good luck with a regular cheapo puller from amazon, about $40. Granted, not as cheap as white bread. I did try some white hoagie rolls (what we had on hand) but didnt seem to work.
