Thursday night Pot Luck sounds good. BTW, a friend notified me of this yesterday. Appears the northern 1/2 of AZ is under extreme fire restrictions starting Friday so no campfires of any kind. As I may have mentioned before, this is my first time to the North Rim so I'll be exploring with the same eyes as everyone else. I had included some suggested trail runs a few pages back (28 & 29) based on some research I've done but Evan may have more insight into things up there.

Oh Man, that is good information. We cook with an old Coleman stove, so I need to buy a propane stove.

EDIT...I reread it and Coleman fuel is OK, just no open fire that can't be shut off.

Update - I talked to the lodge today about dinner reservations - never got return call from 4 messages left with restaurant "host". Talked to general office they say estaurant "system is broken" lady I spoke to promosed to call me tomorrow AM to handle ourv request for a group sitting area. More infom after tomorrows call - I hope.
Heads up on water at the camp. In the book I'm reading on the area, it states the Forest Service hauls in water to the camp and every site gets 10 gallons of water per day by way of four faucets.
Now the real problem...Who's going to tell Mrs. Scrapdaddy she has to cut down on shower time. Come on, help a brother out!

We're towing "Marv" down behind the motor home. I vowed to never sleep on the ground again after a full year of it in a very poor paying govt job back in 1968. My 
supports me in this vow. We typically spend more than 6 months a year "roughing" it - mountains in summer and AZ/NV in winter. Our allotment can be had as we'll be hauling in a full tank hopefully.

Re: the Thursday potluck, we're in for a batch of pork green chili stew. I'll also make a stab at replicating Ige's chocolate chip/bacon cookies. Might attempt another heart-stopping pork-oriented dessert surprise.

Spoke with Ally at the lodge. She will try and put us all on the sanme area. Gave her First names from the sheet Megadoomer put together. We are known as the Iron {Pig Preservation Socoiety 
however they don't seem to grasp our function. So when you get there just tell them your name and Iron Pig Preservation Society they will tray and seat us in one area. If your not on Megadoomer sheet make sure you have reservation about 5:30.

I've been reading about the Sublime Point that Hank mentioned, seems like a great ride and according to the book the best view of the Grand Canyon. The Forrest Service built two roads to the overlook in 1919, but closed them 1930 and in 2015 reopened one. The road is described as rough, needing a high clearance 4wd. Hank's suggestion running the trail to the overlook then going to dinner might work.
