Last night (2/23/12) I installed the passenger side HIR2 philip bulb I got from Candle.

I just wanted to put it in here so if it dies again, I know how long it lasted.

I've been using these HIRs since they were posted here some 5+ years ago. Agree great mod. A helpful hint on altering the edge of the low beam plastic tabs: Don't screw around with saws and dremels. I use wire cutters. Just use a marker and trace the part you want to remove, and put the wire cutters on the line and squeeze. It now takes me about 60 seconds to mod 2 bulbs with no dust cleanup, etc. IMPORTANTLY, I believe the sawing and extreme vibration directly on the bulb filament shortens bulb life dramatically. Do the wire cutter - snip, snip and you're done.

Don't forget to wipe the bulb with rubbing alchohol also, to avoid bulb life shortening from a contaminated bulb glass.

I used toe nail clippers on my tabs and worked fine :)

So, people are using 9011 for low beam and 9012 for high beam? Have read these threads like 12x's and my eyes are getting sore.
Or 9012 for both High and Low?

Also, From what I am understanding the Phillips are BETTER than the Toshiba? I just want to confirm.

I use 9011's for all 4 bulbs and will never go back. finemotoring.com is where I got them. Just have to trim them correctly per his instructions, and stick the extra o-ring on from your old low beams.

One caveat is the 9011's will not last as long being used as low beams because they are obviously "on" a lot more than they would be as high beams. That being said, it's well worth it to me if I have to spend $50 again to replace them.

You'd be ahead (in terms of both brightness and money) by switching to the Depo H1/H4 setup. 9011's won't last very long, especially if you drive with your headlights on all the time. Plus, by using a short life bulb you're running a very real risk of losing one when you most need it at night.

good point for the future. I've got over 2 years so far on the last set of 9011's so maybe when they die. I have a couple 9005/06 spares in the glove box just in case. :)

One other quick note: I put 9011's in the low beams of my wife's 08' Odyssey and they were actually too bright. (Always getting flashed by other drivers). In my 96' Accord Wagon grocery getter though, they work great. Just FYI.

What's the final verdict? 4x 9011's or a set of 9012 low/9011 high? Are you able to aim the headlights properly such that the 9011 lows don't get flashes on the road? I'd be using a Slee style harness regardless. Is the life on the 9012 lows that much better than using 9011 for lows?

I've been dealing with Daniel Stern (Candlepower) for the last seven years for all my automotive bulb needs and couldn't be happier.
I've got his H9 bulb on an H7 base for my H7 using VW (2300 lumens) and the extra light kept me from having to pay for HID's. In addition his 6W 194 bayonet bulbs are great for those positions such as marker lights or under doors. He outfitted my VW all the way around. Good stuff.

Just ordered the HIR1/2 combo from candlepower. Glad I found this post, had actually already picked up some Sylvania replacement 9005/9006's from AutoZone which I can now return unopened for a refund.

Installing this weekend...........who said this thread is dead??? Not me!

LOVING THE FJ80! Took her out last weekend on an extended expedition in search of a spot to use my bow against my deer tag. Never found anything to try to feed the family with but sure had fun crawling in 4L!

Take care...........

My right low beam (passenger) just quit.
So I ordered again the same thing.

So let's see
I bought it 11/04/10 and today is 2/17/12.
That makes is a little bit over one year.
Not very long.

If I bang on the light I get it back, until it quits again. Wonder what that means.

BTW I have the Slee harness.

So let's see...
My driver side just quit.
it is now Sep 3rd 2014. So light lasted about 2.5 years
I am so grateful the light if off during the warm part of the year.
Last time I replaced it in Feb. :-(

Ordering the same. I guess.

SO is this plug and play? other than tabs, no wiring modifications?

Correct. Search Wagner and the bulb number, we put 9011 in all 4 places, they can be had for less than $10ea.

I just put Phillips in my lx. I followed the prescribed 9011 and 9012 per candlepower website. There is a definite improvement and well worth the money. I couldn't quantify it with percentages.
