Oh, a key part to the DIY folding tire carrier showed up today. Hunted around, got it for $71 with free shipping. I figure for 71 bucks I can cut, chop and weld on it and it should turn out pretty darn close to what I want.

These little gems showed up today, another $38 (all 4) well spent! Now to figure out where to mount the front two... Rears will mount inside frame rails, shining across to the outside of the rear tires. Front won't work that way so I'll have to dive in and see what room I have to work with. Where you guys have your front rock lights mounted? I don't want them within sight when walking around the truck, always liked rock lights tucked away underneath.View attachment 1112817
Do you have a link for these?? I am looking for some good small lights for side of my rack. Also any pics on how bright they are? Spot-flood?

Also some how I missed the part about your leg! That suck man and I hope a speedy recovery! Nice post by the way!

I'll get them installed either this weekend or next weekend. They're a flood beam. They were an amazing special, and for $38, if one burns out, I'll buy another set and have three spares! Here's the link for them.
As for the leg, hit on my Harley by a 17yo on her phone. Leg is trashed for life, need a new knee in less than 10yrs, left leg is approx 3cm shorter than my right, had a bypass between legs due to the compound femur fracture tearing my femoral artery. Not fun in any way, shape or form. Happened 2/1/15, just walked last week for the first time since then. Long road ahead, but my spirits are high!

Thanks guys! Gonna pick up some tube and plate in the am for the tire carrier. Tonight's brainstorming is how to make the mount telescopic, and folding, latch and hinge type, but telescopic so it extends past the tailgate when they're both lowered. I have the idea, just gotta sketch it up and get a materials list. It will be offset to the right, and high enough to clear the taillight and licence plate. I'll make a t-bracket as to mount the plate offset to the left, but still have a little more rigidity.

Dude bummer about the accident, hope you heal up quickly and have few long term complications. My father in law was struck by an idiot on his phone a few years ago and got a hip replacement at a relatively young 60 years old. He's doing low impact exercise and doing great. Rides his bike to work every day.

Thanks for the link on the lights, they have a 2 pack for 20 bucks also, just ordered one of those. Looking forward to seeing the cheap tire carrier solution too! Great work!

@McGrinnan here's the lights.

In person is much better experience, but I'm still beyond stoked for my $38 each price, was roughly $100 for materials and price of units installed. Thanks again @jcardona1 for the recommendation, stoked on performance!

Well, spent the weekend in the hospital getting a hematoma taken care of that's been there six months now (since my wreck). Wasn't in my plans, and now I'm home, and hooked to a wound-vac. For the next month. So the next month for me will be hell, getting the dressing changed every Mon Wed Fri, and PT Tue and Thur. I've got some crazy pics, but I don't wanna gross everyone out too bad. Here's the wound-vac. Ask, and I'll post the hole in my leg :crybaby:

So ... Put a tire carrier together today. Couldn't finish due to amazon.com f'ing up a simple job. I used a pre-made Reese receiver, cross member notched, dropped in, welded in. Roller on the bottom because I hate hang up's. Tire is high enough to clear the taillight, and plate once I moved it over. I ordered a latch on amazon, overnighted for $20 extra, paid for this...

Amd they sent me this...

thanks for a 4 gig flash drive? Who the heck buys a 4gb? That wont hold a folding tire in place! Oh well, full refund was given, and latch reordered. So this is basically in place. Temporary brace on the right until next week when the hinge and latch go on. Going to add two tensioning bolts to handle the bit of play it has as well, and trim down the square in the center of the wheel flange. In to it $110, includes everything. Here's how it sits now. Going to add a jerrycan mount as well, maybe a rotopax type, haven't decided yet. Based on room, I might be adding the plate to the back of the basket/can mount for our California highway patrol to stay happy. Might also do a double pie cut to get the whole thing closer to the body/window, its currently out a bit too far, at about 5". Also need to get my hi-lift in here somewhere as well. All brewing in my mind for now.

Love the lights! Great build!

And on second thought, i likely won't move it in, I'll chop the welds on the crossover and move the whole thing forward, gaining a small amount of departure angle as well. I wanted it this tall to avoid dropping onto it, coming off a ledge or anything like that. When i do so, i have some 4" x .250" plate im going to reinforce the crossmember and beef it up a bit. Again, taking about half to two thirds out of the square tube in the wms, its a scrap tube I had and its about 6" too long. Criticism always welcome, fire away!

I did :). Then saw the Amazon link. But not for the light bars
Came from high praise by @jcardona1 , and they're great! Price went up to $50ea I just looked, still worth it. They come with 2' leads, have to build a harness/relay setup, but that's cake for the price of the lightbars. I'm highly satisfied with them.

Amazon Sunday delivery! Pop can for size reference, rated at 2000lbs, 11 bucks plus sheeping.

I still need to find a HD hinge. Don't really want to use tabs and a tube, anyone know if a spot that has some really heavy hinges, making a receiver tube hinge, so 2.5" width is whats needed. Any links would help a bunch!

Got parts for the jerrycan mount, Friday I'll tackle that, and make the tire carrier drop to the right
