I passed my test as well. :)

You can even have matching vanity call signs: KWHT80 and KRED80. You don't need to thank me. :D

Oh, and congrats, really.

146.520 is the local "call" simplex frequency. It seems to be either dead or really busy.

I don't hang out on any frequency. I have only transmitted using simplex. It's nice to have a hand held when out of my vehicle. Chasetruck sent me a good instruction set for programming my radio. Haven't really done anything else...

JJ,
I have the programming cable and CHIRP software to load every one of your radio's memories with repeaters. With a 5watt HT your simplex is going to be somewhat limited. Off the repeaters, I talk to East Mesa, Chandler and the White Tanks from my house on 2 meters. I'd be happy to help you set yours up. LMK.

I also picked up extended battery, a little mag mount antennae and an external mic, which allows me to use it in the car. At some point, I'll get a real mobile.

I use the Shaw Butte 147.240. It is monitored by the HAM 4x4 club and it streams with a 10 second delay to the internet. http://www.4x4ham.com/netinfo.php

So you can hear what you sound like on the air.:hillbilly:

I passed my test yesterday as well! AZFJ Group sponsored it. I used the Ham Test Online web site. Yes it costs $24.95 but it made it really easy for me to pass the test vs all of the free options.

Hopefully I will have my call sign by the end of the week. I plan on changing that with a vanity call sign. Shopping for a mobile radio. I have a handheld for now but do have a nice mobile antenna set up.

This is the web site, owners are local!

Just passed the technician test at Devry this morning.

I studied using the online practice tests (QRZ website) for about two weeks straight. Just took a test or two a day.

Congratulations!

Congratulations, where did you find the availability of test sites, when I looked up what was available I couldn't find anything?

I just looked on the arrl website, or did a Google search. Seems like the Devry group, West Valley ARC, gives a test every month.
