I know it’s not OEM, but I think it’s cool.View attachment 3216002

So do you actually have the gun rack? Back in the seventies I lived in Flagstaff, AZ, at that time very common to see pickups with a couple of rifles in a gun rack in the back window. Had a rifle rack in the driver's side window in the hard top of my 68 FJ40 for a few years. Unfortunately required drilling holes. Still have that rack and come across it every once in a while.

Maybe the gun rack is a Texas thing

A lever gun in the rack, you, your main squeeze, a short box Chevy, a lil’ Southern Comfort and a carnation on prom night..

Children/families we’re made this way…..🙄

The full quote is actually “I can’t guys…I have a BABY now…because of prom!”

Your girl could sit real close in those “regular cab short bed Chevys” mine was an ‘86 short bed 4x4 Chevy. Had a gun rack and I tinted the back window in my driveway. Tinted window helped when watching shooting stars on date night. My wife and I started dating in that thing. Wish I had it back.

It’s getting a little misty in here, I’m going to wrench on the 40 now.

Holy smokes, @littleafrica !!!

If your source has Troopy panels, I’ve been on the lookout for quite some time.
Couldnt believe my eyes as I got my first look at them.
Nah mate sorry he doesnt. The guy bought them years ago for his BJ42 and had them in storage.
The BJ42 was sold a few years ago, he found the panels now and decided to sell them on ebay marketplace.
I saw them, payed, drove 400 kilometers one way and snatched them up immediately.
I had a look online, for all the individual pieces I would have needed to buy as aftermarket panels, I would have payed more money piecing them together than buying those two OEM panels.

@littleafrica

Did Patrick find these ?
No, I found them myself on Ebay marketplace.
Who is Patrick?

1974 Cali-spec EGR valve on the left. 1975 on the right for comparison.

I picked this set up from a local Toyota dealer I believe somewhere in the early eighties. It'll be 46 years in October that I have owned my Jan. '72 FJ40, and based on a lot of what I have read, I'm still waiting on some of the other panels to come to market with high quality fit, finish, and workmanship. I try to remain optimistic, but I feel like I'm running out of time. Although the p/n's are correct for my year cruiser, I do not have the three holes on the inside rocker in my truck. Anyone know what year the holes appeared and if covers are available?

I would defer to @Living in the Past on this, as my ‘answer’ is purely inferential, but two things seem logical to me. One is that they were added in 1974 when the fuel tank shield was added. Two is that they were added in 1979 when the fuel tank was removed.
