They are just a non descript rubber plug. I too wish these were reproduced. I just pulled mine out that were in a protective wrap but they just fell apart.I thought I read somewhere that the SOR grommets were rubber.?

Exactly why perhaps the repros are a different material ? If they used the same material, they would fall apart as yours did. If you are doing a museum resto then I agree using the original material as it does last long enough for the next person. They are just a non descript rubber plug. I too wish these were reproduced. Newer materials advances would help (I say cautiously). I had removed mine from the doors to re-weatherstrip. One has to remember they were 51 years old and UV exposed the bulk of their life to which they met their fate.Exactly why perhaps the repros are a different material ? On the same note I've had aftermarket new rubber parts deteriorate in less than a year as a result I ended up back with OEM.
That IS a seldom seen part indeed. I have a few of them, but I’m afraid to actually put them on my truck.Look what popped up on eBay today. I snagged it up as soon as I could -

Not every day that an apparently good condition early trouble light socket cover comes on the market.
I now only have 2 of these and seems today's seems to be the nice one, so I'll run the other one. That IS a seldom seen part indeed. I have a few of them, but I’m afraid to actually put them on my truck.
A prime candidate for a 3D repop.![]()
No. The truth is that the sockets themselves are so brittle at this point that having covers only tempts fate of breaking the socket itself.I now only have 2 of these and seems today's seems to be the nice one, so I'll run the other one.
I have a few clients who have some of the fanciest 3D scanners and printers so could likely get it done in any spec/volume needed, but since I'm in Africa, logistics would play a role. Labor costs would be dramatically cheaper though compared to US made ones.
But then the question aroses, will making a ton of these take away from the excitement of finding one?
Light gray TPU might work... Can someone supply approximate dimensions of actual? Why isn’t someone reproducing this part? I’d think it would be perfect for 3D printing.
I have a client who commercially does rapid prototypes and production of low and high volume unique stuff, including armament spec stuff. After showing him a cover, confirmed he has multi dimensional scanners, software to clean all up, the capacity to print thousands per month, the local cost will be minimal if we do volumes and we can chose whatever material we want in terms of finish, durability, etc. Must just find time to visit his place three blocks away to get it doneLight gray TPU might work... Yes sirDoor plug?
