For everyone coming up this weekend check out this website for the most accurate weather forecast you are going to get.......

Ray's Weather Center - Beech Mountain - averyweather.com

while the weather channel gives the forecast for the valleys we will be spending most of our time between 4500' - 6500'

looks to be rather chilly especially for us camping out on Friday night.... so if you have room bring some spare firewood!!!!!!

I may ride up Friday night and hang out so i could bring some wood..

So does anyone have an inventory on who is going to be where on Friday night?
I'm wanting to put the Swampers on and head to Ivestor Gap but I only have Thurs night to do it and if something comes up it won't happen. I don't know that trail and I'm not sure I want to tackle it at night on street tires.
Also anyone camping near Mitchell Sat night? Jeri wants two nights on the mtn sides and I'm not averse my own self.

I'm still between Ivestor Gap and Pisgah campground.
Also is anyone camping near Mitchell Sat night. We want to camp up that way somewhere.

Thanks Tommy, that will save us some time getting up there Friday.

Sorry for the double post. I thought the first one had been lost in the ether so I made an second, then when I posted it the other one came in. Must have been a server stumble at the Mud mothership.

Bill, it is looking like myself, Blair, David Davis, possibly Josh will be at pisgah campground and the rest will be at Ivestor gap rd. If anyone else is interested in Pisgah the campground is walk up only so no reservations. Just let me know...

Be carefull with fires. I know there are fire rings up there (please use them and do not create a new one), but everytime* I've been to Shining Rock there has been a fire ban. Probably won't be an issue this weekend though with the recent rains. Just please be aware. It will be posted everywhere if the FS has a ban.

Thanks!

Bill those planning on being there are:
Myself
Andy
Todd
Marshall
Jason

I believe that is all at the moment.

As for the swampers you don't need them.... I went down the trail last year in my FJ62 with no lift, no locker, and 32" all terrians. With your wheeling experience you will be just fine on streets so don't sweat it if you can't get the swampers on.

Alright guys,

Here is a little more info on what road you are looking for if you haven't been to the area before:

the road is Black Balsam Knob road (FS road 816) and is located roughly at Mile Marker 420 on the BRP http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=35.318907,-82.868671&spn=0.028013,0.065403&z=14

should be able to type in your address and get directions to the parking lot at the Black Balsam hiking trail head. The 4wd drive road conitnues on NE past the parking lot. Just keep heading down the trail until you see some cruisers

*edit*

Hey all... No matter where you are camping, make sure to bring your long undies!!! According to the forecast it is looking like it is going to be a CHILLY night up high, it is supposed to be in the mid 30's down in the valleys, so expect 10-15 cooler up high, and a tad windy so we could be looking at 20's to upper teens!!! So bring your 0 degree sleeping bag, and some good insulation and coffee for morning!! See ya up there...

NOAA forecast for Black Balsam:

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 47. Windy, with a northwest wind 15 to 18 mph increasing to between 25 and 28 mph. Winds could gust as high as 41 mph......:eek:

Guess I will find out how well my roof top tent is secured to the cruiser :hillbilly:

BRRRRRR.... Well depending on the wind direction, if we see you blow by the Pisgah campground we'll do our best to try to stop you, but we can't make any promises as we will be down in the cove and would have to run uphill against the wind to attempt to catch you. But we'll see you at Mt. Mitchell or in between if you go that way!! :flipoff2:

OK here's my plan:
A) In light of the weather forecast plan A is try to get in the campground at Pisgah Forest just above Brevard on 276.

B) Failing that I'll come on to Ivestor Gap. If for some reason I can't get in then:

C) Pisgah Mtn Campground. IIRC that is about MM408. Jay can you confirm that? If it's full I'll just crowd in on some of you guys.

I'll still try to get the off-road tires on if I can find my impact tool and torque wrench (long story) because I want to wheel some this fall. But I don't feel it's so imperative as before.

We won't be able to head out until after six at best so I'm thinking we won't be up on the Pkwy until maybe nine. If we don't show up you'll know we stayed down near Brevard and will see you at lunch at the Pisgah Inn around 12 unless we get energetic and head on up to Black Balsam and Mt Pisgah to see what ya'll are fixing for breakfast ha ha.

Cant freakin wait!!!!!!

Josie and myself will be coming in Friday around 2. Bringing the 80 with street tires. I see no issue with getting out to Black Balsam.
Cool that the girl is growing up camping. I love that my dad got us started as early as he did.

Wish we could make this trip, but the wiring harness for Bertha showed up today and we've got to get that truck rolling again!

I hear ya. It's the little things that always slow down an engine swap.
