I am absolutely there, as are YOURNAMEHERE (blair), and 1972FJ40 (todd), and possibly Turkeypen (David Davis) if I can talk him into it... This is one of his favorite rides!!!

Now that is what I am talking about, what a crew!!!! Should be a good time fellas

we will be stayin at the lazy j campground that weekend, its just north of rosman, we will try to ride up to balsm to check it out though

I know JP is goin up Ivestor Gap Rd to camp, but for those of us who are looking for more tame camping I offer this option. The campground at Mt. Pisgah is a pretty tame place, it has room for both RV and Tent. It has a store and bathrooms etc... I have spent the past few Parkway rides there, and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I believe it is $5 per campsite and you can put 2 tents on one campsite.

I'm in!!! I finally get to go on this ride after four years! Can you tell I'm pumped?

I'll most likely meet up in the morning towing the wife and kid in the 100. If they decide they don't want to go, JP look for FJ62 headlights Friday night 'cause it'll be late when I come rolling in.

That would probably make more sense for us. Jeri wants to camp both nights but I'm a little dubious about the Ivestor gap trail on street tires in the dark on Friday night.
Do you suggest reservations? If so is the official name Mt Pisgah Campground? Also we wanted to camp Saturday night at the other end of the run. Does anyone know the name of the campground just up the BRP from Mt Mitchell? I heard the little one on top of Mt Mitchell is full.

linville falls campground is full too at 317. Walk in is available.
might try recreation.gov to find some more in that area but last time i was wandering up that way there were several mom n pops places too. Im headed to Mortimer CCC this weekend to check it out.

Planning on making this ride :D

Well guys, I didn't get the pavilion reserved in time for the ride. Fortunately most of the time we end up hanging out in the parking lot near our trucks anyways, and don't spend that much time up there. Incidentally this will be the first year since I have been attending one of these that the observation tower will be open, so perhaps we could spend some time at the actual summit if we wish to do so. Any ways, sorry, it was a combination of a change in NC State Parks reservation system, and me dragging my feet. We'll make it work though...

well got the dent all patched up and running so i plan on coming as long as cruiser survives test run to the plant this week. I got a cheap cb to install. If anyone has one they use what channel do they stay on??

Guys and Gals it is time for our annual Blue Ridge Parkway Cruise!!! This is one of my favorite events every year as it doesn't get much better than cruising down the BRP with the fall colors exploding around you.... This is a trip not to be missed!!

When: October 16th 2010 11am and continuing until we get tired of talking cruisers or breathing the fresh clean mountian air!

Where: We will as usual be begininng our trip with lunch at Mt. Pisgah Inn (Pisgah Inn, North Carolina - The Peak of the Parkway) and then proceeding north on the Parkway to Mt. Mitchell State Park.

Additional detials: Friday night before the Parkway ride I am plan to camp in the Black Balsam/ Graveyard Fields area of the parkway (about 10 miles south of the Pisgah Inn). As many of you know there is a Forest Service road known as Ivestor Gap that is a unmantianed 4X4 trail it begins at the termination of the Black Balsam parking lot. The road is open August 15- Jan. 2nd every year and traverses a very rocky shelf road for roughly 4 miles then terminates at Ivestor Gap. It provides a fun challenge and offers some awesome camping spots at roughly 6,000ft.

The tricky part about the area is there is limited camping and it is first come first serve. Thus I can not guarantee a camping spot for everyone. It is my intent to try to get to the area early Firday morning and secure a spot for everyone but if I can not and you plan on coming up pleased be prepared to find an alternative camping location on your own. Which shouldn't pose a problem as there are unlimted camping sites in the vicinity.

If you are interested in joining the camping on Sat. let me know so I can have an idea who to look out for.

Looking foward to seeing everyone there

I would like to get my trailer up there to camp fri night. Let me know what you think!

Guys, the forecast is in for the weekend... According to WLOS weather anchor Julie Wunder it will be sunny and in the 70's for Saturday, so hopefully it will surpass last year's foggy visit to Mt. Mitchell, and we might be able to have views from the newly renovated observation tower. Game ON!

Todd,
as long as your trailer is set-up for off roading I don't think you will have a problem at all. The trail is rather strait foward and easy, the only issue I could see you encountering is the trail is rather narrow and it could be difficult to back up with the trailer if for some reason the need arose. Having said that though there are atleast a few spots where you could turn around.

Let me know what time you are planning on coming in so we can keep an eye out for you.

NOTES FOR CAMPING FRIDAY NIGHT:

I am heading up Thrusday after work in an attempt to secure a camping area for us to use Firday night. Once I secure a site for us to camp I will put in a call to Marshall or Jay to post up on in this thread that everything is ago for camping. I will try to get word out to Marshall or Jay no later than 12pm on Friday.

Other than that the weather is looking fantastic with highs in the 60's and lows in the 30's and plenty of sunshine, but do keep in mind that we will be camping at roughly 6,000 feet so it will be a good 10-15 degrees cooler than down in Asheville. So come prepared!

See everyone there!
