Builds Pappy's 3RZ-FE Transplant Adventure

Moving on. Now that I have the fuel from the frame to the filter, and the filter to the firewall, I needed to work on getting the fuel from the firewall to the fuel rail. The hose on the 3RZ runs straight down to the filter under the intake manifold. I needed it to point to the firewall. After trying a few options, I decided I needed to get creative. I wasn't finding what I wanted in the truck rows at the boneyard, so I decided to walk the cars and see if there was anything there that could work. In summery, the fuel rail banjo from a 1994 Corolla was the ticket … with modification.

Modifications included narrowing and thinning the tab on the banjo, and filing down the rail. You see, the tab on the 3RZ banjo has a kink in it to fit in the slot on the fuel rail. The Corolla tab was straight and didn't fit.

Pics.

The two banjo fittings side by next.

Unmolested rail where the banjo fits. It's completely round.

I'm just hoping this orientation doesn't muck with all the EGR stuff on that side.

Very nice - you’re an artist!

Another thought I had. It looks like the tab is soldered on. I tried getting it hot to see if I can pop it off, and maybe move it. No success. So, I need to get it hotter and see what happens. It doesn't look welded. If I can get it off I might try moving the tab to a better place.

Pappy can you tell us what parts you used for the ac manifold and lines? I have a 3rz swap but the engine doesn't have any of the ac gear on it, having a hard time figuring out what parts I need to get my ac working again.

Thank you!

AC. Good gawd. How many permutations for AC hose fittings can Toyota use? I've seen 3 different choices. This has been the most frustrating part of the transplant so far. The service connectors on early 22RE are on the AC compressor manifold. But, that manifold won't bolt to the 3RZ compressor. That meant I wouldn't have the service fittings to charge the AC. So after multiple visits to the boneyard over the last year, I think I have a solution. The line and hose off the evaporator (firewall) on 1989 4Runners have the service connectors I needed and the necessary fittings to attach to the 1985 evaporator/firewall. I have a compressor manifold from a 1996 Tacoma, and the necessary hose fittings to attached to it. So, when I'm ready, I will take the assorted hoses I have to Action Hose and have them make me a pair of hybrid hoses so I can connect the new compressor up to the old existing condenser, and evaporator.

Ummm, new hardware in the garage. Wonder what it means?

Well if it's like my situation with my mid-project 40...you now have a lot less floor space;)

I have a feeling you'll move a bit faster than me considering you ain't got nothing else to do! The question is will Torote get some love while Bushrat is down?

Pappy. Sounds like you gonna have a ball. Let me know if you are still wanting to part with your old motor so that I can swap the 81 pickup.
Is this Allen?

OK, I have been very patient, but I am ready to hear more details!

It looks like I take delivery of the engine next week. Robbie will be driving down. I needed the hoist to get the engine out of Robbie's truck, and on the engine stand.

Excellent! Looking forward to more progress.

It's starting to look like an engine.

Different pic of the left side with the fuel rail, injectors, and a different idea for the PS hose. The manifold is just there with a single nut.
