here is my bush company 270 XT Max deployed on the beach. it handled the winds fine.

where did you get those walls?! I was told they are not available in the US yet.
Yeah, no kidding. Do tell, do tell!!!! They do look heavy and well built.

They are military surplus walls for Alaskan shelters. Way too heavy, but do a great job in the rain. I ended up getting two extendable painter poles from harbor freight and they fit in the loops perfectly for support.

my 270 holds if i dont tie down or adjust tension.
i hate to say, i was quite impressed how much water it'll hold. lol

Yep - Mine hold lots of water too. Them a gust of wind comes up and dumps gallons on you if you are in the wrong spot. IT will fill up to the point where it overflows the outside rails, it never becomes bad enough to worry about it putting too much stress on the awning.

Does this hold rain at all? Or does it just run off on it's own with the truss slope?
mine sheds rain pretty well. I've only had it out in snow once and rain once, both times it seemed to shed it. HOWEVER, I did use one of the tie-down loops between the arms to stake down the awning (I actually always do that if I leave it deployed when I got to bed), so that did help create a little more pitch.

But with all that said, I don't see it having the same swimming pool issue that my ARB had. If I didn't pitch a corner of the ARB significantly, it would hold water like a pool and end up collapsing one of the arms.

Sounds like most of the good 270 options will hold water if it's raining hard enough, unless you pitch it down between the arms. Some of the mfg just opt to put a D ring there just for that reason.

My 270XT holds water too unless I tie down mid span with their provided D rings. As stated previously, I tie down the mid spans before I go to bed not really for water shedding (New Mexico doesn't have much rain 😡) but also to prevent the fabric from slapping when the breeze picks up in the middle of the night.

The Shadow awning has one flip up piece of square tubing that prevents this (water shedding and slapping) from happening and I was thinking about installing one on mine. Still, they slap quite a bit due to the additional material they have due to a larger awning.

thought about jamming a nerf ball between the arm and canvas

Have a Alucab on my 60 since 2016. No complaints.
Was on a trip down to Arizona and Utah where we camped for a month at various BML areas.
In one canyon we had large wind gusts and the three other road warriors had awnings as well.
One of the awnings connections and poles lifted and snapped their connections.
Mine was the only one that stayed up and didn't any extra fiddling. They all came under my awning.
Mogfest in Ore, it was a curiosity for many because of no poles. Great in the heat during the solar eclipse.
Pricey but well worth it.

My Ostrich Wing definitely holds water. I just went ahead and let it go for a week of heavy rain just to see if it would possibly fail and never did. What I did notice was I had an awful lot of clean rain water I was able to use for cleaning every morning. I am even thinking of tapping the center point of some or all of the sections with a flush bulkhead fitting and putting a valve there to be able to use/drain the water. It would be no big deal to rout a plastic tube to the truck or out the truss to the outside of the tarp. If I ever get around to it I will make sure to post it. I would need to find a nice flush plastic bulkhead fitting if anyone has any ideas ;)

Now, THA'S a brilliant idea - capture drinking/washing water from the awning. This makes me think of a possible feature that awning companies can add, particularly for folks who are out for an extended period in the desert. I live in NM and bodies of water just isn't a normal occurrence for me. Livestock stock tanks don't count!

Yeah Scrap, nice 55, iron pig looking good with color matched tent & awning. Where did the hood louvers come from ?

Finally got my Kinsmen Hardware awning installed. It’s been on my garage floor since October. Super happy with the size. Not overly big. Proportions are perfect on the FZJ80. Rear coverage for the tailgate is exceptional. And of course no legs.

other awnings I’ve used/owned

ARB 2M
Tepui 2M
23Zero 270° Peregrine
Eezi-Awn Manta

The Kinsmen is by far the easiest to deploy and stow. Build quality is top notch but should be at this price point.

Looks good and strong. I like that Kinsmen went with steel, instead of aluminum. I had my Alu-Cab Shadow for almost 2 yrs when Kinsmen announced. I did get their shower enclosure. Is Kinsmen offering a wall kit yet?
