Overwhelmed by awnings

Looks good and strong. I like that Kinsmen went with steel, instead of aluminum. I had my Alu-Cab Shadow for almost 2 yrs when Kinsmen announced. I did get their shower enclosure. Is Kinsmen offering a wall kit yet?
Yes they have a wall kit now.

Cool.

So, I went to their website after hearing that. Looks like lots of options. Some things are similar, but quite a bit different than the Alu-Cab wall kits. Kinsmen kits look more versatile. I've not been happy with my wall kit. I love the awning, though.

I've been looking at awnings with wall kits for a while and after starting out wanting a 270 I think that I've settled on the 23 Zero 180 w/ wall kit. 180° Compact Peregrine Awning 2.0 with Light Suppression Technology – 23ZERO USA - https://23zero.com/product/peregrine-180-r/ Most of the 270's are too long for my truck and those that are not don't have a wall kit. With most any of the 270's I'd be in the same boat an earlier poster complained about, I'd be seeing the awning thru the windshield. It would kind of look like a very blunt re-fueling probe. Also as one poster pointed out, very, very few address closing off where the vehicle is. If I could fit it on the truck I'd order the FSR 270 Awning with it's Room Kit. Full enclosure AND it comes with a floor! Watch their video on the whole thing, Likely would not need an RTT, Swag, or tent with that set-up.

I have two different needs for the awning to fill. First is shade while at a remote pit at the desert races. In this case speed of putting it away could be crucial because many times in the past I've been called on to quickly move to where the broken racer is or to go looking for it (one set of driver/co-drivers is spectacularly Directionally Disabled).

Second is a shade/wind/rain enclosure for when we're on a "rough" exploring trip. On those trips we'll be cooking outside and any enclosure that I can provide for that endeavor will make my better half that much happier.

Something that I ran across in researching awnings, and is what prompted me to reply to this now slightly old thread, are these:
Front page EN - Peggy Peg EN - https://peggypegs.de/en/ and an Australian review of them. They do not have a US distributor, which I find odd since they've got one in both the UK and Australia. I have found them on amazon.

Finally got my Kinsmen Hardware awning installed. It’s been on my garage floor since October. Super happy with the size. Not overly big. Proportions are perfect on the FZJ80. Rear coverage for the tailgate is exceptional. And of course no legs.

other awnings I’ve used/owned

ARB 2M
Tepui 2M
23Zero 270° Peregrine
Eezi-Awn Manta

The Kinsmen is by far the easiest to deploy and stow. Build quality is top notch but should be at this price point.

Holy Moly! Nice!
Is it relatively easy to remove from the rack and put it back on?
Do you have a rack/receiver mechanism for easy install and re-install?

I have not ever taken it off. Solo it was kind of a bitch to get on the truck. Would not be bad with two people but it is a heavy awning. I don’t daily the truck so I leave it on all the time.

Since I have my Alu Cab mounted on my trailer, there is less need to remove it, also. I mentioned my disappointment with my wall kit, so I have started carrying a couple of Kelty Backroads Shelters. It is the most versatile shelter I’ve seen for vehicle camping. It seals better to the vehicle than my wall kit and it can be used on the trailer or rig for weather conditions. I can use the Shadow awning for shade in the desert or the Kelty for poor weather conditions.

Agreed, I have my 23Zero on my trailer and never pull that off. Really the only reason I'd remove my truck awning would to run a trail that required me to keep my center of gravity low.

The $100 Amazon 10x30 awning. Also comes with the walls.
