opinions on roof top tents

I have a CVT Mt. Bachelor I bought through last years group buy. If I could go back, I would buy a Mt. Shasta due to the easier annex installation. It zips on instead of having to be fed through a really tight tube that goes around the bottom of the platform. Putting the annex on the Mt. Bachelor is near impossible solo. On the black cover, the orange CVT logos are turning white. I emailed them about it a couple weeks ago, but never heard back. Other than that, I love it!

I own a Tepui Gran Sabana and have tested it in some very extreme conditions. I run it on my trailer as a RTT and have no complaints about it and the customer service is top notch. If I were going to put one on top of my 80 Series I would want something that is very light. There is nothing worse then having your CG so high on the truck when you are off camber and out wheeling. Just my opinion but I would look at the Tepui Ayer (95lb) and the Front Runner RTT (88lb) or anything else that is light weight.

Love my anaconda tent.. Its made in Venezuela and you gotta love the built-in AC window.

Here in TX snakes and wild hogs have me thinking getting off the ground isn't a bad idea..... debating the Ayer and a few other options...

liking the feedback and input - keep it coming...

Without the annex it takes me 5 minutes or less to set up. I have a 6 inch lift with 38s. The nice thing is my bedding is in there already. It is nice to be off the ground and have a dry room annex to into.

I built a bed in the back of my 80 and it works pretty good, but last time we had rain and a million mosquitoes, getting in the truck sucked. With the annex it would be better by far with the rtt. I think being up higher would keep the morning dampness down too.

So when is the CVT group buy?

I don't think Bobby is doing another group Buy. The last one didn't go well. Not his doing! I waited 6 months to get minE. The wait was worth it.

What's wrong with a good ground tent? They are about 1/8 the cost and pack a lot smaller. Are the roof top tent super easy to set up?

I am wondering the same thing. I have been camping in ground tents my whole life without problems. In severe weather and conditions. A good tent is cheaper, lighter, and packs smaller then roof tents. I currently use a Sierra Mokena and love it.http://www.sierratradingpost.com/sierra-designs-moken-tent-4-person-3-season~p~1485d/ I can't see any advantages to roof tents. I think they look awkward and cumbersome. Maybe someone can tell me what I am missing here.

Hi there

Can you take some pictures on how the RTT mounted to a rack with side rails? My rack has 4 inch side rails.

Thanks
I welded 4 cross bars to the existing basket to mount the tent. I did not want to mount bars on to the basket and then place the tent on it. The damn thing is already high off the ground. :)

I don't have a roof top tent, but the biggest draw to me is the fact that all your bedding and stuff stores in the tent and setup is literally 5 minutes from the time you park to when you can be sleeping.
Tear down is another 5 minutes and you're on the road again.

that being said, I doubt I'll ever invest in one

I had an ARB Simpson Series on an Expo'd 60....It was a really nice, sturdy tent...however, it was a real pain to set up- plan on taking a ladder with you (even a short step ladder)- it makes setting up the tent sooooooo much easier....

If I could do it all over again, I'd probably do a James Baroud or an Autohome pop-up tent...they're more expensive, but the set up looks to me to be infinitely easier...
