AVL got it's first miniature one. It really isn't bad. Only thing that irks me, is the oncoming traffic turning right has the yield sign, and never f***ing yields.

Was just going to say that, the exit off 26 for mills river iirc. Pretty neat experience coming across that bridge the first time after they reconfigured it, lol

Yes. I drive it daily for work, obviously. I won't lie, there are still some moments of brake foot panic when exhausted after a double and driving on autopilot, ha.

I will say this - highly effective!!! Can't fix how ****ed 26 is, though.

^^ I'm with Ramon, I don't remember any mention of traffic circles in NC Drivers Ed class or in the book that I read cover to cover before my test, but that was a long time ago.
Luckily we had plenty of practice parallel parking.

Cars will be driving themselves before everyone learns to drive properly.
Yeah, but let’s be honest...it’s not a huge mental leap from the way traffic normally flows are the central courthouse sitting in the middle of a ton of small NC towns.

Hey now! Not everybody has been to court in as many small towns as you.

I'm not convinced the majority of general public aren't idiot muppets.

What really kills me is that there is a series of 3 or 4 small traffic circles in a row right by my house. I understand being cautious if you’ve never seen one before, but it’s the people I get behind that eventually navigate the first one successfully, but then act like it’s a brand new experience for the next 3!!! 🤬

We have a diamond interchange right by my house and traffic flows easily thru it. I like them.

Just wait til y'all get these :D

At least there are traffic lights to control and direct.

Already have one..... right at 16 and 485 near my old house. It's actually even more complex than that as the are entrances and exits for all the shopping centers on the corners.

Who was it that said they trust people so little that they look both ways at the roundabout? I've never gotten over that. So true. I believe it was @izzyandsue
Something does happens to most people's brains when they turn the ignition ON on their cars, almost like their IQ drops to room temperature numbers...

I will never forget the first time I drove in Holland and hit a traffic circle, and was amazed (as an enginerd) how traffic just flowed. A year later came back to the US and see people freezing at traffic circles, like Homer looking at a complex math problem.

We have several traffic circles near our house. I got behind a lady the other day who got to the circle and stopped, put the car in park and just sat there. I don't know if she was looking at a map or looking up the rules of traffic circles, or just waiting for some sort of divine intervention, but she sat there for a few minutes with traffic piling up behind her laying on their horns. She finally did like the RV in your post. Re-started the car and made a right turn. Some people are just morons.
The majority of NC drivers never got any instruction on how traffic circles work. With the integration throughout the state recently, I've seen no real effort for education. Not to excuse the lack of basic ability and logic, there is going to be a group of (especially older) drivers that simply won't know how they work and what to do. NC needs to make an education campaign as these become more commonplace.

@roadstr6 I encountered a few like that in NC

@mtweller I didn't learn to drive in NC and honestly I can't remember if they were covered in CA or not. Out of the 12 or so European countries i've driven in the rules seem to be all the same. If you are exiting from the first exit you enter with your right blinker on. If you are exiting from any exit after that, be it 2 - 8 (8 just because I think that's the biggest ive seen), you enter with your left blinker on and then immediately your right blinker when you pass the exit before the one you are getting off on. (If we are talking about the UK or Ireland then the blinker sides would obviously be reversed). That's the way it is here in WA for the most part also but i'd say only 50% of the people do it. Luckily the largest roundabouts we have here are two laners or I could see some bigger issues happening. I love driving them in Europe as it makes traffic flow so well, here it does ok but I don't really trust the people around me to do it right or the people waiting to get on to not just jump in front of you.

All I can say is "look kids Big Ben"

Just when you think you can explain how things work...

Here's some sort of circle in Wilmington. Notice the double yellow in the middle of the lane, yes, the traffic can go both ways around the circle.

I don't know what people are thinking most of the time.
