nice man, thats clean, what else are you going to do to it?

Just finished the prep for Herculiner on the floor of the interior. Then we start with reassembly of doors (weatherstripping, window channels, glass). Then headliner and seats (Procar Elite), seatbelts and interior. SEVERAL more days.

David-You and your "tards" do some nice work. That 55 is beautiful. It's amazing what some paint and body work can do. Post some pics of the motor/drivetrain.

Actually, most of the grunt work is being done by the owner. I have become sort of a cruiser co-op this week. I am in more of an advisory position.

Wow!

Quick question: any thoughts on removing and then replacing the weather stripping, windows, tail gate etc? I did a lot of body work and painted my 55 a few years back. I did not have the guts to remove the rear side glass due to the weather stripping issue. Are you replacing this material? What about all the tail gate rubber?

Great job though. You should get this truck professionally photographed once its done. I think it will be that nice. Great photos of this project will go a long way to promote your skills etc.

Cheers,

Max in Seattle

That sure is a nice looking piggie.

Is it going to be wheeled? I see sliders have been installed so I was wondering. I rarely get to see nice piggies so this is a treat. I am not trying to hijack your glory or thread but thought it might be O.K. to share my 'restored' pig also. I am debating upon how hard I will wheel and outfit this rig. That is also why I am asking about the owner's plans for his '55...

More pics please

Don't know how often Danny gets on the board, so I'll answer as best I can.

As I understand it, this truck is to be his DD.

(PS, AC, NV4500, LOADS of dynamat). The sliders are part of the rocker replacements, and are not there with the intention of being used, more of a precautionary measure that looks good. :D

Hopefully Danny will post up as it is his truck...

Thank you all for the comments on my truck. Progress is slow, but I'm being really careful to build the truck I want. To answer some of your questions:
THE TRUCK:
It's a 1970 with a Chevy 350 conversion, a NV4500 and centered rear Auburn limited slip diff. The transfer case is a Dana ( I don't remember the model-sleep deprivation after several long days at the shop). All this was done by the PO.
THE PLAN:
The truck is going to be a daily driver then my son and I plan a road trip next summer after he graduates from high school. Atlanta to Cabo to surf. Stops in Santa Fe and San Diego. Since its going to be driven every day, I'l still need A/C and a sound system after I'm done with this phase. The reason for all the Dynamat is because I need the sound and thermal insulation for comfort.
THINGS I HAVE LEARNED:
- the guys who built this truck have a lot smaller hands than I do.
- it's easier to take something apart than it is to get it back together again.
- Dynamat works a lot better than the cheaper alternatives.
- Herculiner is easy to apply but hard to prep properly.
- David Dearborn has forgotten more about cruisers than I'll ever know.
- Ironpig.com and Lance Williams are the only place to go for rockers.
THE FUTURE:
I'm dreaming of a Vortec installation when this motor gives up the ghost. Then I'l probably go back to Toyota transfer case and rear axle.
We'll keep you posted as long as David's camera and patience last
Thanks for all the help you guys have given me as I lurked on this board during the planning stage.

In reply to CruiserMax:
I got all the weatherstripping from Off Road West. For the wing windows, we're going to reuse the originals since they were in pretty good shape. For the rear cargo windows, you have two options-- Off Road West sells W/S in rolls which match original profile. Or you can try Evan Jenkins method of using a front windshiel W/S (string on birfield.com). I'm going to try the second option first.
Also, Dearborn got a message recently from someone who claims to be coming out with repro W/S in about 4 weeks.
Tailgat scrapers came from Off Road West and I think I have all the rest from them too. We'll know soon enough.

Grey, white & Forest Green, nice choice of colors (need more green on there). I've already picked out those colors for my next 40 buildup. That aux. gas tank hangs waaaay low, I hope you have a skid planned for that. I don't see why you'd wanna downgrade to the offset LC case & rear axle though. Looks great otherwise!

I recently installed the same tank (I think) in my FJ55 and will definitely be adding a lift of some sort... I have read some threads that discussed this tank and have heard of folks dragging the tank over rocks without much harm, but that doesn't make me feel any better. I believe the tank is 2mm thick or so. I have thought about a skid plate and will eventually add that as well. The rear end is already susceptible to drag as it is so any protection/advantage will help. Good observation and point...

The green was the "original" color painted by the PO. I've got stock wheels and hubcaps to put on once I'm done-- I just don't know whether to leave them black or go with gray.
The tank is a long range tank from MAF. I'll think about protection after the rest is done. One problem at a time.
