Couple thoughts for you Erik- you were talking about having a shop sandblast and epoxy prime your new project. Been thinking about that. Two thoughts:

1. I would think you want to do all the metal work before you primed.

2. The quality of the primer is likely not automotive quality where you take it. I did lots of research to come up with this primer, and it is perfoming very well.

Also, I ordered all the transmission parts from Kurt yesterday, so that will happen sometime.

Next up, flip the tub back over, scuff it up (and fenders) and apply undercoat. I plan on doing both of my tubs and all four fenders at same time. Sounds like a messy job - rather do it once. So, you might actually see a post on my other build thread. WOOOOOOOO!

agree, i'll paint. .not sure about waiting till done with all work before painting tho. might go thin, scuff where welding.

Looking good Kelly.. Do you have more work before actual paint? and what's your recoat time allowance on your epoxy primer? Using a fill primer over it before topcoat?

How's that roller thing work under the tub? you build that specifically for that purpose? or was it something else in a previous life?

Yes, I will do all bodywork now. My understanding is that I can scuff up the epoxy, mud over it and then when it is all done, I can recoat the all with a thin coat of epoxy, then paint color.

Works pretty good. :hhmm: I made it first for por 15 the bottom of the tub (see pic) then I cut off about a foot and used it for the other side. Now, I need to flip back over to undercoat, and need the extra foot of height. OOPS :whoops:trying to figure out what I have that is about a foot tall 3 foot square. Not coming up with much except a crap load of phone books.

As for making it, the wheels are off of the spinner, and the rest is $10 of 2x 4 and scrap wood from around the shop.

If you want it, it is yours after I get the tub on the frame, which should be in August. The wheels are for the spinner, but you had dibs on that next anyway.

Gimme till august and I'll let you know how the garage looks/what room is available.. I'm hoping at that time to have the need for the spinner.

FYI, I found that when I mounted my tub directly to the spinner, it would flex some. Fine if your doing light work, but if you want to make sure the doors align up, not so great.

So, I mounted a full extra frame to the spinner, welded 2" spacers on the body mounts, then mounted the tub to it with long bolts. As you can imagine, it was quite a lot of space by then. Take the full frame and add 3 feet on both ends.... anyway, if you can find a straight frame that is junkable -- that you could chop off the front end, you could save 5 feet. For your you could chop off the back too, but that would not help the next user of the spinner.

Anyway, something to think about.

Hey off the top of your head how long are bolts that hold the spindle?

I saw your other post, and was suprised that coolerman did not know.

I would guess about 1 1/4, but I will go out and check for you.

28mm or 1.1 inches

Cheers!

You are the man. I was thinking today who would know the length then it popped in my head kelly is working on his.

Ding: a prediction by Erik came true..... now that I have been educated, I can go forth and help others.....

Hope life is treating you well!

Cheers!

any new glamor shots of this project?

Been on vacation. Have a few days of catch up then cub scout bear camp, then catchup then family trip.

Trying to squeeze in a little progress on prepping for the undercoat.... see how early I can wake up.

Cheers!

So, with some motivation to clear off the board that holds axles, I decided to slip the "new" axle into the 68'.

Unfortunately, the "while you are at it" happened, and I realized that I want to use the 34 Interco's that I had on the shelf,on this rig; therfore I needed a lift likely. I had a set of 4" lift springs on the shelf, so pulled those out. Did not want that much lift at first, but it should look good.
