Erik told me to paint up the calipers, so I grounnd the bumpy surfaces, prepped and painted them up.

Also, with the help of Kirk, flipped over the tub, and started sanding to prep for the undercoating.

Changing Paradigm

So- again I can blame this all on Erik-

With the addition of 2 system brakes, came disk brakes, with fine spline birfs. With big brakes now comes big tires, which then a nice 4" lift. Now, we don't have a little rig running around, so I have decided to change the color choice. My thoughts:

Olive Brown:

Note: the tires on the 45 are the same ones that will be on this 40.

Any thoughts?

i like that color on a cruiser. I am wanting to paint the 67 chevelle ss in my garage that copper color.

Undercoating? you using SEM or SPI or another? tintable?

Raptor.

Tintable for the inside, black under the fenders and tub.

Have not shot it yet, need some extra time:however, everything I read is good about it.

I bought at fox run tools.

Thanks!

I used high temp engine paint. I have learned the hard way to put a hose on the bleeder when I clear the lines. Brake fluid eats up rattle can paint.

Now we have 3 generations

My dad flew in for a quick visit from Florida and said that he had a day available to play with me.... so I took the day off from work and put him to work on the FJ. So, now we have 3 generations that have worked on ol' blue (even though she doesn't have much blue left)

Anyway, we spent the time prepping for undercoat. Scuffed and sanded all the por 15 and taped it all off. Now I need to wait for good weather, as I plan to roll it into the grass and spray it in the middle of the yard. I really don't want to have to worry about undercoat overspray.

Cheers!

seals

Wife and kids are gone for weekend,:grinpimp::grinpimp: so I am going to tackle several things this weekend. one of is to do the seals on the tranny. Erik you said this in a prior post:

3 speed drivetrain..
1.. input to tranny seal. Pull nose cone off trans replace oil seal
2. seal between transmission and tcase. Bit more involved. I can walk you thru it.
3. Flush with good 90 weight.
RUN ..
4. Replace rear main while trans is out.

On step 2.... What do I need to know??? :hmm:Do I need to search FAQ? Kirk gave me a shop manual, so I do have some reference material.

I had an awesome weekend in the garage. :bounce2::bounce::cheers:Got the new axle under the frame on the 4" lift springs, changed out the rear springs, and pulled the steering arms off for a quick sandblast and a fresh coat of paint.

Here is where Erik says he was right. :flipoff2: Ends up the calipers from the T100 looked great, but need a larger width rotor -- guess it is better vented. :bang: Anyway, I put those on the shelf, pulled out the other calipers, ground them down and painted those up purdy like.

Took of the tranny/transfer case off the 68' engine, degreased, pressure washed and sandblasted the housing, tranny and transfer case. Pulled the transfer case off tranny. Cleaned up the tranny for paint, opened it up and cleaned it up a little inside. All looked good.

Ready for installing the new rear main seal on the engine, new side cover gasket on the engine. Ordered a new transfer case to tranny seal today (thanks for the direction Erik);), need to look around to see if I have another clutch plate and maybe order one.

Maybe I can get this engine / tranny on the frame one of these days.

Pics to follow....

"larger width rotor "

Don't dismiss these as bookends yet.. if your wheels will clear them your probably ok. I have some antisqueal shims that go behind the pads that can help or you can put 100 series pads on them. The piston will just start to take up the gap. I'll have to look at these again sometime. Most of the time it's the wheels that can't clear those huge ol things.. And the volume of fluid to fill them might be detrimental.. WE will revisit them when your closer to rolling and stopping..

Ain't no big thing but a chicken wing.. I'm just glad your getting your project back together.. Feels good to pick a hunk off the floor and bolt it on!

Yeah, putting things back on is quite the thrill.

Baby steps.

PIc # 3 post 176 that female gear is the seal we discussed you will be replacing and spinning the gear into. Do not punch the gear thru.
Looking good.. Updates on undercoating progress?

Undercoating this afternoon.

This am, I was able to get the new rear seal in, pulled the inspection plate (side panel) off of the engine after I figured out how to get the oil filler tube out, and got the brake calipers on. Went by NAPA and they still have not got the brake lines I ordered a month ago.

Anyway, hopefully will post pictures tonight of the undercoating.

That 45 in post #162 is SWEET!! What brand / size are those tires?

Same damn tires that I will have! Interco's I agree they look awesome. Tall skinny is the bomb!

See post 160.
