So, it seems we have a happy ending here...should we make this a sticky?

More to the point ...Should we be worried that the original poster (Charles) hasn't said boo after his original post?

That users loss...

:meh:

if anyone wants to keep the oem look, a long computer geek style flat screwdriver inserted in the stock plastic fitting (from the outside end) will flatten the little clip that holds the stock female spade connecter in, from there, you can cut off the oem female spade and crimp on your new aftermarket female spade. make sure the aftermarket spade has the small tab on the back that sticks up and slide old oem plastic fitting over it. voila. just like factory, only aftermarket. i even think i know a place that has new aftermarket plastic thingys if you want to make that aftermarket too.:D

Lostmarbles, in post #20 the terminal you show in the first picture is actually the correct OEM terminal. Notice the flat brass springy "tab" between the two sides that grip the sides of the post? That tab presses against the TOP of the post and aids in keeping the terminal from coming off. In old worn out connectors that tab has been mashed making the terminal loose.

Geeeze I'm such a dumbarse Mark!!!!!

I always get on ih8mud first thing in the morning and usually end up posting away rapidly while all the time rushing because I'm usually intent on doing something physically-constructive in the morning as well before I head to work.. The end result of this "rushing" can be doing something silly like this.

You're totally right of course.

In post number 20 I was trying the correct female terminal and NOT the female spade terminal that I thought I was trying. (But at least the clear plastic sleeve was from a female spade terminal).

So no wonder I thought it was a good tight fit (because with the addition of the correct plastic sleeve it would have become "a perfect OEM fit").

And this error came about because I wasn't aware that I had hundreds of those "correct terminals" in my kit and so I simply picked up one of them (in my rush) thinking it was a spade.

I'll go back and edit post #20 in a minute.

So..... Here's a pic of the comparison between the correct terminal (on the left) and a 6.3mm spade:
CompCorrectL .webp
(Note that the spade terminal on the right has been bent/deformed from my attempt at fitting it to my oil sender.)

And I retract everything positive I said about the fit of a spade terminal on the oil sender. As you can see, I bent a 6.3mm spade while trying to force it on:
PoorFit.webp

And once I had forced it on the result was a loose and unreliable connection.

So now I really do dispute the claim here that a female spade will do the job! Because my experiment (now that I think I've finally done it right) suggests it makes a very unreliable connection.

Or have I goofed again somewhere Mark?

?

you just used the wrong aftermarket spade connector. go back and find the correct aftermarket spade manufacturer and it will work just fine:flipoff2:

I'm still here and reading avidly. I love to H8MUD and look forward to the day when I can contribute more answers than questions. I was kind of expecting a post or two and that would be it, but after seeing the responses, I felt a little silly that...

1) I didn't even consider a plain old spade connector and
2) that I didn't think of coolerman for electrical gadgetry

I was leaning towards the cheap quick fix of the generic connector, but with lostmarbles latest pic, I may go back to coolerman. His prices are more than reasonable. But when I go to his website it's like my wish list has taken a little blue pill. Makes me want to rewire the whole truck in nice new color correct wires. Maybe next time.

PS Coolerman if your still watching, how exactly does one buy from you? I didn't see any type of cart.

I was just thinking that too.

The term "spade connector" covers lots of different types.

And the right one for an oil sender is not the most common type you find in electronic shops. (At least it isn't in this part of the world).

Glad you're still with us Charles.

I post away most mornings even though I probably don't know as much as many here. (Usually "just before" or "just after" breakfast.) I guess it gives me satisfaction in a similar way to people doing crosswords. But crosswords simply enable one to show off their existing knowledge. On the other hand here I learn new things that are important to my 40-series obsession.

So - Thanks for starting the thread Charles because once again I've added to my own knowledge.

Lostmarbles, the reason you are not having any luck with the particular spade terminal you chose, is threefold: One: the terminal shown is thin brass, two: it's not designed for the task, three: It's not insulated which allows the terminal "ears" to easily expand. The terminals others are using may be much heavier duty terminals (made from thicker material) therefore they fit tighter.

Toyota terminals (they came from two different manufacturers) are stamped from a thicker brass then most aftermarket terminals. They hold their shape better, but they too will eventually fatigue from multiple insertions. Modern terminals are actually rated for a surprisingly low number of insertions. (How many times do you actually unplug your heater switch for example?)

Bottom line is this, use the correct terminal whenever possible for the job and in an emergency use whatever is available.

Do somebody knows the OEM reference for this special clamp on Oil pressure sender on 3B engines ?
or any suitable clamp which cous be used instead ?
My original clamp has broken.................

Thanks in advance
Laurent

I just did this very same repair two days ago...

Go that Home Depot/Lowes, grab a pack of regular wire female end connectors, and a wire crimp.

Good luck!
