So the NV5600 has a better 1-2 than the NV4500? seems this would be where you need a change most as the OD is the same?

The 1-2 is slightly better and the 3-4 is much better.

Percent ratio change for each shift:
NV4500: (Dodge version)
1-2 = 46% <-- Too big for Moonshine. I never use since I have 4.10's and 33's.
2-3 = 45% <-- not bad
3-4 = 40% <-- too big
4-5 = 25% <-- Perfect

NV5600:
1-2 = 40%
2-3 = 40%
3-4 = 32% <-- Nice!
4-5 = 28% <-- Still in the power band!
5-6 = 25% <-- Vroom!

Of course, the other issue is you're now lugging another 165 pounds of tranny so, in my case, I'm not really getting much of a bonus by bettering my ratios.

Its the 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 shifts in the 5600 that makes it so much nicer especially when hauling loads.

Night and day difference in the work trucks between the 4500 and 5600 when we were hauling a lot.

I personally liked the shifting of the ZF6 better.

The ZF6 is an awesome tranny. Light, heavy duty, great shift, and even an internal pump for cooling the fluid. But wowzers, $$$.

This is the biggest difference IMHO. A fluid pump in a manual tranny? I can't think of any other "light duty" manual transmission with a fluid pump.

So I ran into a guy this weekend that had a 97 FJ80 in good shape with 140k miles. He lives seems to want in the $3500 range. Everything looked to be well kept and he has dealer records for the minor mechanical work done on the car and the interior and exterior were in good shape.

The only thing is that he said it had a salvage title because it was stolen new from the dealership and recovered with about 1,000 miles on the odo. Is this something that I could confirm if I ran a carfax? Anything else I should look into or worry about with salvage titles except for the obvious drop in the resale value?
Did you ever get this thing ? Or if not and no one else from here got it if you still have the persons contact info I need it. Someone most of us know from the Outpost is looking for a decently cheap 80 to start down the cruiser road with.

Never mind for me. Chris at the Outpost just got him a 92 FJ80.

So I'm back looking for a FJ60 gas tank that is in good condition. I tried the recall route, but the recall was completed in 1991.

My tank is now rusted bad. I've pulled it and will attempt to fix, but not sure how clean I can get it, and it will always be in the back of my mind that the rust is creeping back. If I can source one easily enough, I want to go that route. My save time and effort in the long run.

thanks

I texted him last weekend and then followed up this weekend with a voicemail. I'll definitely post on here once I get a response. When we first met he said that he was interested in selling in the next few months or possibly earlier (this was early April). I have a couple of Carfax's left that I can run and if I don't end up purchasing it, I'll send the contact info along with the carfax to anyone on here who might be interested.

Not sure who was first in line but still interested here also.

Tires & Wheels

I have upgraded a bit, so I have the following for sale in the CLT area. Thought I'd throw them up here before CL.

5@ 235/85R16 BFG AT KOs. Tread depth is 13/32 compared to new at 15/32, so they have a good bit of life still in them. These are mounted to an unknown brand of 16x7 black steel modular wheels with 3.5" of backspacing. One tire has a minor sidewall cut, so I would not think about using that for anything but a spare. Am thinking $75 per assembly (wheel and tire) or $350 for all 5.

These come off the 73 ...

Looks like L&L pick and pull outside of Charlotte has some 80s that might have some parts on the cheap.

Last summer I got some decent stuff for my 60 at a good price.

Here's the CL ad.

Looking for a driver's side rear spring plate for my 40. The threads are stripped out on mine where the shock attaches and I have the nut tack welded to the stud for now. I'd like to source a proper replacement. These plates are side specific. Let me know if anybody has one...or even a pair. Thanks!

Looking for a front bumper for a 97 LC. Mine got a little bent up, so need a replacement. I live near Greensboro and Burlington. Thanks.

I have an extra FJ40 stock steel wheel painted original Toyota Gray. It's a little bent, supposedly IE: makes a good spare.

Free to a good home.
