I will arrive in Denver on Sunday, 20 August, for 21 day road trip In Colorado, Utah and Wayoming.

I will be happy to get helpful tips for special restaurants, trails, places and maybe meet local Mud members if i will be lucky.

Unfortunately, bringing my 80 is not a feasible, so I rented a Jeep Wrangler and I booked the first 2 nights only.

The first night near Denver airport the second in Bolder because I would like to visit Slee Off road . After that we will go wherever the good roads will take me.

What's on the plate?
Salt Lake City Land Cruiser Heritage Museum
Yellowstone park
Teton park
Alpine loop
Blackhawk nit for the casino, but for the ghost town near it.
Idhao Springs
Some outlets for my wife shopping

No large cities. Back roads and country places. No desert of any kind

First stop will be at a camping store to get a stove and a cooler the stove for the coffee, I bring 4 pounds of the best middle eastern coffee and a Finjan pot.

Trying to master google maps

We will be happy to meet with MUD members and get as many tips from local people as possible.

I hope you will forgive me for posting this thread.

Not sure how far south in Colorado you would wander but the Telluride/Ouray area is quite spectacular and one of the highest drivable trails in the US.
Yes, Alpine loop starts at Ouray but I will do only the easy parts if I would not find a partner or more

Boulder is far from slee. Slee is in golden Colorado. I get bored in Boulder pretty fast. Idaho springs is ok. I would take i70 to evergreen and check out evergreen. After evergreen continue up i70 to Silverthorne and Breckenridge. Check out SOB hill. You don't have to do the hill but can enjoy the mild trail and there are campsites nearby. There is also a lot of camping near the state bridge area. From Breckenridge you can take highway 9 to south park Colorado. Go up 285 to Beauna vista and check out tin cup on mount princeton. You can also go to leadville from beauna vista which is a cool drive and very worth it. Then go to Salida, its a cool town. One brewery actually in Salida has a fj60 beer, it's very good. Make sure you have a map app on your phone that can run strictly on GPS and download maps for the states you'll be in, it's easy to get lost without signal. Setup major local towns as waypoints. Doing this has saved me several times.

Glad you’re getting to visit. Hope things are working out ok with the problematic 80 you acquired recently.

Rocky Mountain National Park (Morraine camp ground) is only about an hour and a half from Denver airport and closer to Boulder. Estes Park is a nice mountain tourist town near entrance to park. Frasca (in Boulder) is one of the best restaurants in the country. I use any excuse to go there (pricey).

If you make it around Salida, as @White Stripe suggested, Classic Cruisers (Brandon) is just down the road in Poncha Springs. Great Sand Dunes National Park is an hour from there and the biggest pile of sand I’ve ever seen not on a beach or in the desert!

Good call on Alpine Loop.

Second recommendation for Arches National Park in Moab. You can camp there or just spend part of a day. You can actually rent an 80 in Moab!

@Jason hansen is a local 80 guy in Moab too.

The other parks in Southern Utah are amazing but a bit further away.

I’ll be in Park City (Utah) area for a long weekend beginning Sept 7th if you happen to be in the area then. Plenty to do around there.

L'chaim!

All of Utah is basically high desert but beautiful and worth seeing!!
ONXoffroad is a good app you can run on you phone for navigation.
The base price is only $29. US and well worth it, very easy to use and good support.
Just need to down load map’s when you have Internet service.
Then it works off GPS when you’re off grid.
Google maps is very easy to use and will work with out cell or internet if you plot your course when you still have Reception.

Personally after Utah I would head west to the Sierra’s it will be a lot cooler in Aug and if the jeep you rented has lockers you could run the world famous Rubicon Trail.

I hope you have a very enjoyable visit. Slee is only ~15 miles south of Boulder straight down Rt 93 past the (in)famous Rocky Flats. Your wife may enjoy the 16th Street Mall in Denver and Pearl Street in Boulder - both lots of outdoor shops and restaurants.

Cruiser Fest at the Land Cruiser Museum on September 9 if you want to plan around that. Tons of people will be there with their cruisers and I think they’re showing off the new “250” if you want to take a look at that.

OMG @ikarus we have a flight back home from Denver at 10/09 07:00 so we need to be 9/9 late evening in Denver :bang:

Can you tell me how long is the drive from Salt Lake City to Denver?

Ah too bad! 8 hour drive from SLC to Denver. You could always pull an all nighter and sleep on the plane. Haha

Ok, I can drive 9 hours and not sleep one night I am a veteran and I know that not sleeping for a few days does not kill you. the problem is with the wife.

Many times I do something and I get that look on here face of yuck... Yuck, did you just dipped your bread in the sardine can oil?

So I changed the tickets back 10th of August to the 12th.

I tried to return the car in Salt Lake City but the rental company told me that it can't be a Jeep and the only car available for this is Corvet cabriolet . This won't do for me.

Here's the info on Cruiser Fest:

You can buy tickets on that page, or at the door I believe.

Being from the desert, you would probably enjoy tubing in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Off I-15 between Salt Lake City and West Yellowstone, if you're going that route. Generic photo of the river there:

I grew up in Black Hawk and my first thought was, there’s a Ghost Town?

My second thought was, CO is already over crowded with tourism so no way I want to add yet another person to the line of my favorite spots.

Third thought was Slee is boring.

Good luck OP.

Ya slee is just a shop really

Also kind of thought Arches was boring too lol. Just scenic

The rest of Moab is super cool and lots of easy/scenic trails
