Want to do mine next? I will even pull it out to save your back :)

did you have the head checked for warpage and shaved for extra ponies? :)

if I ever do a HG job, I'm taking the wheels off and have it kneel in the front....

My hood is up to my chest and it doesn't fit in my garage. I think I might just let someone else do it. I am getting lazy :)

A complete engine rebuild in situ.

Impressive.

wow! You are one dedicated individual to go that far into just for the sake of doing it. Great pics and documentation.

Kinda like an in-frame on the large diesels in OTR trucks.

I think he did 15 on mine (along with injectors, porting & polishing)... noticeable difference! :D

I'm not sure how well shaving the head plays with the dual turbo's LX is planning to install next.

IIRC, spec is for up to 20 thous before a new head is required.

did you check the cylinder walls?

x2 I was also curious about this

x3 I was also curious about this, especially because if i remember right, LX was always the one who thought that just doing the top end was silly without also doing the bottom end. So far, from what i have read here, there was nothing wrong at all with the bottom end, any second thoughts on that? Thanks.

LX, I think that you should clean those pistons alot more before you button up.

Comparison Pic.

Not intended as insult; I know you can get em good, but like I wrote, now's the time to do it before you button up. BTW, how are you going to get the twin turbos on with that manifold there? You are playing coy! :D :flipoff2: :D

The spec is check the head for warpage. If the warpage is over spec the factrory states that you replace the head. Toyota does not recommend or endorse doing any work on the head sealing surface. It's either OK to begin with or you replace the head.

That being said, many have had fine results when surfacing the "non-surfaceable" head.
