Holy cow. I have git to get a move in things. Body work, epic road trips, snow at the best possible moment.

Spent a few hours this evening chasing threads on holes. Lots of missing fasteners and all the holes have been open for 20+ years and are way too crusty to successfully accept a bolt. Not much to see but took pics to break up the tedium of the task.

Also laid down the bib for access to more holes to tap(since I was so thoroughly enjoying myself and didn't want the fun to end). Also did some more straightening on it with the better access I now had. Roughed in panel alignment

Masterful manipulation of the BFH...Your new steelies are very nice. Well worth the road trip.

thank you, sir- it's by no means straight but is drastically improved from what I started with... it didn't take me long to decide I wanted the stock rims and hubcaps back on this thing, and I'm definitely much happier with them than the mixture of tacoma and Nissan hardbody wheels I had scrounged up to get it out of the woods. also, having them not rub the calipers/tie rod ends sure makes for some easier pushing around the shop. also, as is the going trend in this project- the price was sure right!

Got a couple hours in after work, finally remembered to grab a 14mm 6point impact socket for my continued battle with the gas tank bolts. Proceeded to run em in and out with the impact in an attempt to get em out without twisting- was 50% successful which sort of pissed me off since I was an hour and a half of my life deep in running these bolts back and forth and soaking in PB but I guess whatever. It's loose. Sweet. Little did I know the battle of getting the now loose tank out of the 40 was about to begin. I'm not sure if my bagged out rear springs were conspiring against me or what but this damn tank is seemingly too big for the space it's occupying. I absolutely can't get it past the rear diff, and it's wedging against the drivers frame rail while still on top of the passenger side. Jack the 40 up from the rear hitch thinking I'd create some suspension droop and room to work. No dice, apparently zero suspension compression is taking place with full weight on it. Awesome. Go back to twisting turning and yanking. I'm not sure exactly what I did but it finally just dropped out and hit the floor. THANK GOD.

While logging all this quality time on my back under the 40 fighting the tank I get a real good look at everything and it's in way better shape than it should be given where I found it. Luckily it's just enough of a pile of crap I could afford it but rust wise is way better than others I've seen here and elsewhere on the net. The worst of it is all in floorplans and I sorta think it rusted from the topside from sitting in the elements with no top for 2-3 decades. Rear sill, rockers, floor stringers are all surprisingly solid which I'm fairly stoked about.

It does have this random nasty rust in the bottom edge of the frame diagonals but traded for a set for my old 2f tstat housing to @B1oodyBuzzard . Also, if you happen to have doors that do not latch and will be working under your vehicle strap the doors shut or while you're yanking around on your gas tank you'll jostle it open partially and when you go to pop back up from under said vehicle you'll give yourself a low grade concussion.

Agreed - that body metal is a lot cleaner than you'd expect it to be. Great photos and great work on getting this crooked 'cruiser straightened out.

Got ambitious Tonight after work and put a floor pan cutout out of the pile of goodies I received from @GreggL to use on the nastiest of the rust spots in the front floor pan. I wasn't planning on doing this so I didn't bring my neat auto dark helmet or gloves or anything really for welding. Did half this by closing my eyes when I hit the trigger then I found these sweet goggles for the last half so don't judge my s***ty looking welds. Also didn't bring any grinding equipment or Blair cutter and had one super roached roloc disc to work with so used the cutoff wheel to grind through the spotwelds and didnt pretty it up any for you before pics.

You can see the spot I skipped welding here, it had pulled together and created a small buckled in low area so I used my little pneumatic reciprocating saw and relieved some pressure so everything could sit flat and flush before continuing

Apparently the girlfriend is babysitting her niece tonight so I opted to come back to the shop and hang out with the 40 some more. Finished welding in the patch. Stared at it a fair bit. I'll bring home some roloc discs and smaller grinder tomorrow and make it actually look like something.

In anticipation of this weekends trip to visit @ccasteel to retrieve a new (to me) cap, I popped the old one off. The header is likely trash, which I had my suspicions of. Other than that just a couple very small spots of concern on the back radius of the hardtop sides.
